Wanded On The Strand at Galveston

Most CHL/LEO contacts are positive, how about yours? Bloopers are fun, but no names please, if it will cause a LEO problems!

Wanded On The Strand at Galveston

#1

Post by Kyle Brown »

Saturday night, my wife and I attended the Mardi Gras parade on The Strand in Galveston. As we approached the security tent, an officer was using a microphone, warning people that weapons were not allowed into the part of the Strand blocked off for the parade. However, there were no TPC 30.06 signs at the entrance, so I proceeded to the check-point where I was wanded. As the wand passed over my left hip, it sounded loudly. At that moment, I exposed my CHL and DL cupped into my left hand at an angle so that only the officer could see them. He patted me on the shoulder and said, “You have a good night, Sir” and motioned us passed him. Apparently no one around us knew what happened. I say that because as we were walking away, my wife asked me if I knew the officer. I said no and asked why she thought I knew him. She said, “Well, he did not say anything about your gun”. I showed her my DL and CHL that were still cupped in my hand.

It's good to know that they knew the law and followed it.

If they were letting CHL's pass, there is no need for 30.06 signage. Signage isn't required for non-licensees carrying a handgun, since they are subject to UCW charges anyway.

If someone walks up with a rifle strapped to their back, they can always give verbal notice. . . "rlol"

There was no TPC 30.06 sign posted at the security tent (where everyone was wanded) or the admissions/ticket office immediately behind the security tent.

By "they" I mean the police.
They knew that a 30.06 was not posted and therefore CHL's were legal and let us through.

By law they cannot post a 30.06 sign even if they wanted. It is a public street. :rules:

Sure they can. They can post them all over the place, no law against it. They just can't enforce them.

Great story. If you ever find yourself in New Orleans at a real Mardi Gras parade (sorry couldn't resist) please be aware that it is against the law to carry at a parade even with CHL. Don't want any of my TX CHL friends to find out the hard way.

Yep. Been to a number of gun shows in local gov owned properties where 30.06 can not be enforced but the sign was there clear as day.

LOL...yep, know exactly what you mean. I have been to several real MG celebrations in NO (in my earlier years when the floats were all horse-drawn or pushed by hand)...LOL

I have seen then displayed at gun shows in Bell, Nolan, Taylor, and Travis counties. I just laughed to myself, paid my admission fee, and walked on in with my handgun. One of the shows is owned by a man that I have known for many years. I asked him why he posted the sign and if he knew it could not be enforced. He never provided a direct answer.
