Got Pulled Over Three Times in Ten Minutes

Most CHL/LEO contacts are positive, how about yours? Bloopers are fun, but no names please, if it will cause a LEO problems!

Got Pulled Over Three Times in Ten Minutes

#1

Post by WildBill »

This is a strange one for me. I was on my way home from dinner from a restaurant about 8 miles from my house. About two minutes after leaving the restaurant I got lit up. I pulled over, put on the dome light, got my DL and insurance papers. The officer explained that I had a headlight that was out. He ran my papers, asked if I had a gun. I replied "no sir". He gave me a warning and told me to fix the headlight. "I will get it fixed tomorrow", I promised.

I was back on the road and within two minutes I got lit up again. I thought that the officer forgot something, so I pulled over. I turned out it was a different officer. As he officer walked up I heard on his radio something about a headlight. I showed him my DL and he asked if I had gotten a ticket or warning. I told him that I got a warning. He let me go.

I continued home and about five minutes later I get lit up again. I rolled down my window, got out my DL and again turned on my dome light. When the officer got to the car I told him this was the third time I got stopped in the last five minutes. He asked me if I knew why and I told him because of a burned out headlight. He asked to see my DL and asked if I had got a warning or ticket. He told me that there were a lot of police on traffic patrol this evening [no kidding]. I told him that I had gotten a warning. He told me that since I was so polite, he would just give me a warning.

After that, I finally got home. All in all, the LEOs were very professional. Guess what I will be doing tomorrow?

Replace both; they're cheap, and they're most likely the same age, so the other one will probably die soon. Use the packaging from the new ones to store the still-working one in the car as an emergency spare. Losing a headlight in the middle of nowhere without a spare really isn't fun.

I'd recommend Sylvania Xtravision. WalMart usually has them for $1-2 per bulb more than the cheapest bulbs.

Ok a question. If your headlight is out and you turn your driving or fog lights on, does that help avoid being stopped?

Hopefully REMEMBERING TO CARRY YOUR GUN WITH YOU!! :eek6 :bigmouth :grumble :nono:

Were you out drinking or something? Why no gun? They should've given you a ticket for failure to carry. You're lucky GigAg04 didn't pull you over, he'd have arrested you and taken you to the gun store and forced you to buy a gun to carry right then and there.

Was that for the headlight, or for leaving the gun at home? :smilelol5:

Off the topic and onto one of my major 'rroids for a moment:

Your driving lights are your headlights. If I was a LEO, I'd write tickets for anyone driving with their PARKING LIGHTS on. That is a moving violation by definition and so... :mad5

Back on track, if you please. :tiphat:

That's happened in our area before. Headlights out is so easy to see from far away. I bet the officers were running on a STEP grant, so that explains the sheer density of popo.

Good story!

I am concerned that you weren't carrying though.

You must have been in such a rush to get home to get your handgun that you had forgotten, that you
failed to see that big pot hole that must have knocked out your headlight?

I once was pulled over twice for the same thing you were, in two neighboring towns by those towns finest
on a Sunday evening.

These were two very small towns in coastal Maine where I was living at the time; a 1974 Pinto by the way.

The first gave me a warning.

The second simply could not believe that the first had let me drive the car away with out fixing first.

I asked him where I could get a bulb in his fine town of 600 at 5 pm on a Sunday and I would be happy to do so.

Thanks for your story. It brought back memories I had long forgotten....
