If Const. Carry passes, a signage question
If constitutional carry were to pass it appears the current 30.06/30.07 would be changed from "licensed holder" to "person" which would mean the signs would apply to all persons who carry. Would there be a mechanism for private property holders to bar non-licensed holders but to allow licensed holders? (I do see another Const. Carry bill that would create a 30.08 sign for unlicensed persons but it seems like that bill is not the one moving forward at the moment).

Re: If Const. Carry passes, a signage question
It would depend on which bill (if any) becomes law as to the mechanism to provide notice. I believe some of the bills allow 30.06/30.07 to apply to both LTCs and non-LTCs. Some bills (such as SB 540) would create a separate section under the penal code (30.08) that would apply specifically to non-LTCs, leaving 30.06/30.07 to apply to LTCs only.toddlinder wrote: ↑Wed Apr 14, 2021 10:26 pm If constitutional carry were to pass it appears the current 30.06/30.07 would be changed from "licensed holder" to "person" which would mean the signs would apply to all persons who carry. Re: If Const. Carry passes, a signage question
I’d love to see this, but I don’t see it happening this time around:
Would be great if 30.06 & 30.07 signs would only apply to unlicensed carry. Let oral notification apply to all, but remove the force of law that signs have against licensed carriers.
Maybe someday...

I am more optimistic this session than I have been in previous sessions of a permitless carry bill passing both chambers and being signed into law.Vol Texan wrote: ↑Thu Apr 15, 2021 12:22 am I’d love to see this, but I don’t see it happening this time around:

If this passes, what do you do with your current LTC? Frame it? I guess it is then useful in the reciprocity situation.
Would licensing then be optional? If there is no licensing, then you’d lose reciprocity unless you got one from another State, like FL or UT?

According to TSRA, the bills moving through legislature currently would not abolish LTC licensing. You would still be able to obtain and renew your TX LTC, same as before. However, a license would not be required to OC/CC in TX, assuming you are not a disqualified person or under age.parabelum wrote: ↑Thu Apr 15, 2021 8:06 am If this passes, what do you do with your current LTC? At least this is my understanding.
Email received from TSRA on Monday...
On Permitless Carry- House Bill 1911 by Representative White and House Bill 1927 by Representative Schaeffer are in the Calendars Committee. You'll recall that these bills DO NOT eradicate the LTC system (in fact I know several people who are still going to get their LTC even if this passes). People who qualify to carry as an LTC (the person isn't a felon, drug addict, fugitive from justice, etc) would be allowed to carry without a permit. Mostly, the people supporting these bills already carry, so the bills are more about rights being restored. There are now 20 other states as of today that have passed some form of Permitless carry. It's high time Texas joined them! I am hearing rumors of floor action on these bills soon but, as of today, they have not been scheduled for debate in the full House. Stand by, I'll keep you updated.

Re: If Const. Carry passes, a signage question
I am afraid private property owners are going to eat us alive on this. I remember after the OC law was passed. Many more businesses posted BOTH 3006 and 3007 signs because they did not understand the difference. I fear the Democrats will want some sort of "No guns" sign as a trade off and that will LIMIT our rights.

And when necessary for reciprocity in other states.

Don't have to worry about it, there is zero chance of it passing.toddlinder wrote: ↑Wed Apr 14, 2021 10:26 pm If constitutional carry were to pass it appears the current 30.06/30.07 would be changed from "licensed holder" to "person" which would mean the signs would apply to all persons who carry. Why do you say that? What do you base your statement on? We have a similar amount of time left in the session as we did when both Campus and Open carry were passed in 2015. HB 1927 has been placed on the House Major State calendar which means that it will be the first bill on Second Reading to be discussed today and has 5 authors and 60 co-authors. The fact that it is on the Major State calendar says that this is a high priority of the House and I think it likely to receive a similar treatment in the Senate.chamberc wrote: ↑Thu Apr 15, 2021 9:21 amDon't have to worry about it, there is zero chance of it passing.toddlinder wrote: ↑Wed Apr 14, 2021 10:26 pm If constitutional carry were to pass it appears the current 30.06/30.07 would be changed from "licensed holder" to "person" which would mean the signs would apply to all persons who carry. In my opinion, this is a lot of unwarranted pessimism.

Agreed as some states with reciprocity agreements require a LTC (or their equivalent) from your state of residence.parabelum wrote: ↑Thu Apr 15, 2021 8:06 am If this passes, what do you do with your current LTC? Frame it? I guess it is then useful in the reciprocity situation.

Interesting other question is what about the Federal Gun Free Zone Act, which in part states:
"if the individual possessing the firearm is licensed to do so by the State in which the school zone is located or a political subdivision of the State"
So without an LTC if Constitutional carry passes, is there no carrying within 1000 yards of a school?
