Martinez Fischer later said he was philosophically opposed to the open carry bill and was taking every opportunity possible to delay or stop it.

“This is not something I think my constituents want, and my job is to represent them by any means necessary,” he said. “If there’s a piece of legislation that I cannot support, if I can’t work with the author to make it better, I’ll find a way to make sure that my perspective is taken into account.”

He used the words,"I think." That to me means he doesn't know or doesn't care what his constituents want. Sounds like he has his own agenda. Perhaps his constituents should let him know. I guess his constituents only include the folks that voted for him and are in his party. Thankfully it sounds like he's in the minority.
He also said he would represent them by any means necessary. Hmmm! Maybe he hacked the computers.

There's no conspiracy folks; 125+ bills were impacted by a computer failure. HB910 will be back up for debate soon, probably on Friday. Don't worry about SB17 either.

Seems to me the way to properly show his thoughts is to vote "no", not try to kill the bill on a technicality.

That's the problem, people think the end justifies the means. If the majority of the members believe a bill should pass a floor vote, then it should pass. He is using Chicago thug politics.

Just like the tax code, the rules of he legislature are too complicated with too many loopholes.

Well...from years of being where I am at...they'll do what ever they want to do...regardless of whether the majority wants it or not. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't...but you can bet both sides do it....Individual reps are out for themselves. Nothing more.

BTW...this is not meant in ANY disrespectful way towards the posters.....just an observance after 25 years of watching these people.

With almost real time information at our fingertips, we get to see what's been up until now an inside view of how the sausage is really made. It's not pretty, and it's definitely not for everyone. If you find yourself getting worked up over these procedural steps and hurdles, I suggest turning off the computer for a while and waiting for the final news report.

Its sponsor, Sherman Republican Rep. Larry Phillips, called the error a "procedural glitch" that occurred because the committee was hearing two bills at once.

Sounds like the issue stems from the OCT children who filled out one thing on their witness cards and then changed their mind during testimony (testifying "on" vs "for").

Rep. Jonathan Stickland, R-Bedford, said he will attempt to force a vote on constitutional carry on Friday. If the House refuses, he said he has 162 amendments he can offer to make the bill less restrictive. Open carry opponents are expected to submit a number of their own amendments, including one to bar open carry by those who have lost their Texas concealed handgun licenses.

I hope that's a typo, but 6 and 2 are not that close on the keyboard...

I keep seeing it may or will go back to the floor Fri. Somebody here late last week indicated that nothing usually gets done on Fri. because it is a travel day for the legs. that do not live in the close proximity to Austin.

Chair person Phillips said yesterday at the beginning of his committee's 2nd meeting that he thinks the issue of hearing testimony on two bills (HB 910, HB 937) in the same session may have contributed to the witness affirmation problem. There was discussion on this forum at that time (on or about 03/17) and during the SB 11, SB 17 hearing on or about 02/12) pertaining to how this could cause some confusion.

I completely agree. In this case I'm not sure how Fischer intended to "derail" the bill, as he was quoted in the article, by discovering this kind of error, but it's a positive that the error was found and fixed for sure.

In a previous life when the software I was writing was going through routine DCAA audit, sometimes the auditor actually did me a favor by pointing out certain "flaws" that I had not tested and I was very grateful for that.
