Absolutely true!! The House and Senate need to change their rules to all a "call the question" move to cut off "debate" that is purely stall tactics.

It says at http://www.legis.state.tx.us/BillLookup ... &Bill=SB11" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; that as of 5/26/15 (today), SB11 has been placed on the "major state calendar." Does that mean anything?

It's dead. There are 9 pages of bills on the calendar and SB11 is on page 6. Democrats are chubbing everything so the clock will run out.

So much for Straus' promise to get SB11 to the House Floor for debate and voting. I want to see the House Journal when it's published to see what Republicans voted against the motion to suspend the rules.

As much as I may dislike the likely outcome of their actions, I appreciate that they are willing to work within the rules as written.
This was not an underhanded move; it's done all the time. It is done in part because of the Star Chamber-like procedure of having a Calendars Committee that works in absolute secrecy. The House should have the same procedure used by the Senate so no Member can secretly kill/tag a bill in Calendars.

Chas.
I was referring to the action on the floor today rather than anything leading up to this in the Calendars Committee. The fact that SB 11 made it out of the Calendars Committee and onto the floor calendar when it did meant that there was a limited time for the bill to live. I appreciate that those opposed to it worked within the rules of the House to kill a bill they deemed unacceptable while potentially killing other bills that they may have supported.

If I'm going to be consistent in my praise of the rules when they work for me, I have to praise the rules when they work against me as well. That doesn't mean that I shouldn't look for a way to change the rules, but I also have to acknowledge that I change the rules at my own peril.

Is Speaker Straus rated by the NRA/TSRA and how will his actions this session affect that?

So with all the senators and reps with their names on the related bill there won't be a blow back to Straus in '17?

What does this say about Patrick getting this promise from Strauss, with Strausses fingers crossed behind his back?

I guess this doesn't bode well for HB 910, either. And I have another non-gun related bill in the Senate I would personally like to see passed. But the posturing of one Senator may kill all chances of that one, too.

I must say, all that time they spent the first week on those honors and recognitions (that everybody ignored) would come in handy right about now.....

The more that I watch, the more that I believe that I would support a law which required every voter to have to watch this nonsense. If every voter had to see the stuff that happens, perhaps we'd then get elected officials who willingly do their jobs.

My State Rep Hubert won't tell me his position on HB560. How about yours?
