I think 2 good years of HB910 or SB17 will ease the worried minds and a future HB308 will pass then. I'm not sure why with our current legislative makeup; I'm still going with the "baby steps" approach.
We must reject the idea that every time a law’s broken, society is guilty rather than the lawbreaker. It is time to restore the American precept that each individual is accountable for his actions. ~ Ronald Reagan ~

That would be good news indeed. Looking forward to seeing this in the official ledger.

The committee substitute to HB308 was not my first choice, but good things are accomplished even though it does not achieve the overall goal of eliminating all off-limits areas. Whether a call-to-action will be issued has yet to be determined.

Thanks Chas - is the text available yet? I looked on the tx legis website and didn't see it yet.

No and I need to make sure that the substitute is what I was given before I talk specifics.

This is good movement. Now please move Campus Carry too... Or does HB308 effectively take care of that too? I didn't see any mention of higher education in the text of the bill I looked at...

If i understand it, 308 decriminalizes it, but still allows rules to be put in place. Notwithstanding any changes that were made.

I can't speak for the substituted text, but if it excludes CHL from 46.03 that would take care of campus carry. Look at the text of the bill as introduced and search for 46.15 to see the underlined part that would be added.

EDIT: I would think 30.06 would still be enforceable for schools & colleges that aren't held in buildings "owned or leased by a governmental entity."

I'm hoping the legislators are working quietly to get the bills passed without all the fanfare from supporters which also attracts more vitriol from the antigun nuts interested in instigating negative press.

You should reserve judgement until they post the committee substituted version...
I could be a sourpuss and guess that schools remain off limits in the new version... but.. I'll wait for it to be posted....

Correct. The committee substitute will be significantly different, but again, I can't comment until I'm sure the substitute is what I was given. If so, then we will not be exempt from §46.03.

As in, licensed carry within governmental buildings (in this case institutions of higher education) would still be prohibited?

I'm still watching for updates to the status of HB308 and new text...
