I am right there with you ws03. Color me naive if you must, but I will not give up hope on these two bills passing in some form until the last legislative deadline is passed (which is Sunday night at midnight). Lt. Gov. Patrick needs to get the Senate conferees appointed asap so the conference committee can get to work!ws03 wrote:Both SB11 and HB910 are not dead yet and I for one will keep hope until the last bell tolls. The legislative process is always a bit manic by it's nature, so don't let the drama make you feel like you should give up.

Things like this mess, if it wasn't for the income tax, I'd think about moving north of the Red!
Re: House 5/27 - HB910 or SB11
When can this actually happen? Does Patrick first need to wait for a report to get sent over by the House? Will that happen today or tomorrow?Srnewby wrote:Lt. Gov. Patrick needs to get the Senate conferees appointed asap so the conference committee can get to work!

That is what I meant by my earlier post about OCT people not taking an easy 90 % win. If I had my choice, I would have taken that penalty reduction even over open carry, but we could have had them both.Charles L. I imagine it will take considerable political capital and a larger measure of clout to keep OC alive.

I bet a bunch of the representatives headed out to a big fancy steak dinner. I think instead I shall have to resort to a rare bowl of ice cream to soothe my ruffled feathers!

Charles, when this is all over, I hope you'll be able to offer your perspective regarding how OCT and the rest of that crowd impacted other gun/weapon bills. I have my own thoughts on the issue, but I'd be interested to know your thoughts based on what you've heard from legislators and lobbyists.Charles L. Cotton wrote:The Dutton amendment came out of the blue and it wasn't debated for more than a couple of minutes. Then, predictably, the law enforcement community took offense and the backlash was huge. The Senate knew this, Huffines knew it and that's why the amendment was stripped in the Senate State Affairs Committee. There were not going to be 19 votes to consider HB910, if it came out of committee with the amendment intact.Overthehill wrote:But they voted for the Dutton Amendment. Huffines was the same as the one they approved. So maybe they never meant for it to pass in the first place as they possessed no logical reason to change their vote. Just how it appears from here.
To people who want to blame anyone other than Huffines, I hope you kept up with information and hints I was giving about HB910 and SB11. I can't ever tell everything I know, but people who have been following the Forum for a few legislative sessions know that when I make statements about risks, those statements are based upon facts, not conjecture or supposition.
HB910 isn't dead, but it certainly has one foot in the grave, a grave dug by Huffines, Grisham and OCT.

That's if you think Lt. Gov. Patrick really wants this. He was VERY quick to say the votes for OC just were not there after being elected. I think it might, sadly, be that he dangled that carrot in front of us to get us to vote for him but had no intention on actually seeing it done.Srnewby wrote:I am right there with you ws03. As an aside, Charles, after seeing this process my respect for you and your patience has sky-rocketed. I have no idea how you stand being around those petulant, egotistical children.

In my neck of the woods, it's all over the media that "law enforcement" is the main driver behind killing licensed open carry. A headline here -- Police chiefs: Open carry 'handcuffs' law enforcement
Mr. Cotton seems to be on the right track. When the amendment to limit stops by LEO's to check open carriers for CHL's for no reason, other than checking, was added to the bill, the LEO community got their feelings hurt. Never mind the 4th amendment, papers please.
What Lib LEO's, politicians, and others and don't get is they receive consent to govern from US. Not the other way around.
Blame the one's who put in the amendment all you want, they were trying to improve the bill. The OCT guys are morons, knuckle heads, but the LEO's are the ones whining the most if you ask me.
