If it does, we stand a real chance of time running out or a filibuster.
I hope it all works out.
This is my fear. I'm worried they made this minor change specifically so it would have to go back to the House so they could either run the clock out or set it up for a filibuster and still try to tell people, "well we tried but it wasn't our fault, blah, blah, blah." Sadly, many people would believe it, too.
This is exactly why the overly long and poorly timed debate over Huffines's Amendment 9 was such a risky gambit.
They should have passed the bill as is, and then debated "upgrades" to it in subsequent legislatures........JUST as was done when CHL was first passed. But NO. A freshman senator's ego had to get in the way.
“Hard times create strong men. Strong men create good times. Good times create weak men. And, weak men create hard times.”
Then they would have passed the bill with the Huffman deletion of the amendment. Back to the House and coming up with a compromise. At least now it is basically the same bill passed by the House. Right?

EXACTLY.
This would have been a perfect solution. And would have worked fine.... regarding any amendment. Campus carry, cities over size X opting out, etc. The republican majority in deep red texas would have won mega points just for passing open carry as a stand alone bill, e.g., "This bill says anybody with a CHL can now carry in the open, end of story". But the fact that there has been quibbling amongst even it's "proponents" to the point we are in danger of losing the bill due to the clock running out really doesn't pass the smell test. Wait until they find an i wasn't dotted on line 88 of paragraph B of subsection 8. (That's sarcasm so no reason to split hairs with the example)

Correct. Alice Tripp is characterizing the bill passed by the Senate as "significantly similar" the the bill passed by the house.

How much sooner do you estimate the house would have taken up concurrence on 910 without the "overly long and poorly timed debate"?

think maybe he changed the wording but kept the meaning as to lay claim to the amendment?
At the current time 90% of us that have voted here on the forum feel the bill will pass and be sent on to the Gov. and become law.
We are all either very optimistic or have no clue what we are thinking. KEEP VOTING!

I agree, it is sensible thinking.....but what about the last month as been sensible?

Would it have been sensible to think it would have happened any other way? Its politics.

Well with all the hype over the Pro2A bills this year and the conservative domination I expected a clean sweep.
Really didn't think we would be coming down to the last week. Last month...maybe.
But you are right, it is politics

Really? Given the antics of the OTC and OTCT crowd I'd say most people considered OC DOA before the session started. I'm shocked we got this far. Hopefully we can bring it home. Although, even if we get OC and CC, there were other bills that were much more important that were sacrificed in the process.

Yes, really thought a clean sweep was in order. Why would I not?
OTC and OTCT are viewed as off base and out of touch. To much negative publicity. IMP

It was that negative publicity that brought organizations out of the woodwork to oppose these bills. I would agree that before the idiots started their foolishness most of this would have been a slam dunk, maybe even unlicensed carry. But now we have organizations discussing 30.06 that didn't even know it existed a year ago.
I believe the house will concur now that we are this far, but I wouldn't have given OC much of a chance before the session began.

OCT/OCTC/Grisham/Watkins made themselves the face of open-carry, it's a mighty ugly face, and the public backlash against open-carry was expansive. Only the work of the NRA and TSRA brought the issue back from the grave. jmra is right.
With the lineup we had in the House and Senate, this should have been a record session, but open-carry was a massive drain on political capital. That combined with other issues has resulted in a good, but not great session.
