Old Faithful and Alien Gear Holsters
Old Faithful and Alien Gear Holsters
I've been looking around, trying to find a good IWB holster. I currently have a leather/kydex holster, but I believe it is a store brand, the screws keep coming loose (even with blue loctite), and the leather is folding up at the bottom due to how it fits. So I'm wanting to buy a brand name. Looked at Crossbreed, white hat, king tuk, and had settled on Old Faithful, buying a kit and assembling it. Hadn't quite ordered it yet, and heard of a place called Alien Gear Holsters. They are cheaper, already assembled, and appear identical to Old faithful. Does anyone have experience with these two companies?
I also noticed, not sure if this is co-incidence or not, that both companies are in Fort Smith, AR. Just seems strange to me.

No experience with Allen Gear. I have an Old Faithful DIY kit and like it. I noticed the leather on the Old Faithful is a bit thicker than the leather on my Crossbreed Supertuck, which I also like. Don't know if that makes it better or not, but thought it was an interesting difference. Assembly was fairly simple, but I was surpised it took about a month to arrive after placing the order for a DIY kit. I mistakenly thought it would take a much shorter time to ship for a DIY kit. If I remember correctly, I paid around $37 shipped with the discount they had going at the time.

Re: Old Faithful and Alien Gear Holsters
I think I would go for the Alien Gear. I've had an Old Faithful for about 2 months and like it a lot. It cost $40. I wanted another for a small, Keltec P32 and heard about Alien Gear. I received it today (2 weeks after I ordered it). I'm so impressed that I wish I could return the OFH. The Alien was $10 less than the OFH and was already assembled. OFH has a huge up charge to simply screw the holster together for you ($40 vs $75 I think). The design is identical. Alien uses thicker leather and at least the same, or thicker, kydex (sp?). Alien has the same warranty and for as long as you own the holster, will also trade out the kydex if you want to carry a different weapon. All the hardware (both Alien and OFH give you a bunch of extras) and clips look identical. I also read on another forum that a guy who purchased an Alien got a thank you letter from Thomas Tedder, the founder of OFH. Hmmmm..... I joined this forum just to answer your question, so I hope it helps.

I meant to say the Alien was already assembled. My OFH was a DIY kit.

You'll not go wrong with OFH DIY or AlienGear, albeit the latter is less expensive and superbly made. Kholster is another that makes a fine product. I sold my two Cross Breeds to finance the AlienGear and a Kholster, and no remorse.

Re: Old Faithful and Alien Gear Holsters
I have two old faithful holsters, I put together myself,
Takes time to brake them in but once you do the fit is so very nice,
when you get it set for your hand gun give it a couple days to form your body,
then on the back side of the screws but gorilla glue for metal on them it will hold very snug.
I like the high rider model.

Re: Old Faithful and Alien Gear Holsters
I bought an AlienGear a few months ago. They seem to be relatively new, but have a great "exchange" policy.
The holster works great for me with a Ruger SR9c. It comes with hardware to make it pretty adjustable.
I don't have another name brand holster for comparison, however..

Well crap. I was interested until I looked at their website and saw you mention Old Faithful. I purchased an Old Faithful DIY kit and had a hell of a time assembling the kit. Couldn't keep the darn tnuts from popping out while putting in another one. Sent an email to them and never heard back. about 2 weeks later I send another one and the response was send it back and we'll put it together for you. I replied I had already got it together, but am worried about the leather around the tnuts being damaged. No response and it has been 1 1/2 weeks. A couple of days ago I send an email to Thomas about my issues and still no response.
I understand that sometimes there are issues with products, but one reason I bought the Old Faithful holster was due to supposedly great customer service. I personally have not seen it yet.

FWIW, spend a little extra and get hand made, I switched from hybrid a few years ago and have never looked back!

Re: Old Faithful and Alien Gear Holsters
Finally, heard back from Alicia Tedder of Old Faithful Holsters. They are refunding 50% of what I paid for the DIY kit, and sending me a fully assembled replacement. I'm satisfied with their solution.
