While I would love to be present in Austin for the hearing on this bill, my schedule dictates I cannot attend. I will do everything I can support this bill from home and ready to call and write the members of the committee, the calendars committee, and pretty much all representatives in the state when the calls to action come up.

I know Charles will keep us updated on this, I look forward to flexing whatever political power this one man has.

Thank you to everyone who is actively supporting this bill, and any who are not I encourage you to make this one a priority.

Please consider attending this meeting in Austin on Thursday.
This is THE 2A bill of the 2013 session.

http://www.legis.state.tx.us/tlodocs/83 ... 03218I.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
SECTION 5. Sections 46.15(a) and (b), Penal Code, are amended to read as follows:
(a) Sections 46.02 and 46.03 do not apply to:
<snip>
(5) a person who is carrying a concealed handgun and a
valid license issued under Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government
Code, to carry a concealed handgun of the same category as the
handgun the person is carrying.
Take a minute and READ 46.03 again.... Think about what this bill would do.... All those prohibited places... No longer prohibited.

PLEASE DO ALL YOU CAN TO SUPPORT HB 3218!

There are a number of gun bills that will be heard on Thursday, so it's going to be a busy day. HB3218 is near the end of the schedule, if the Chairman doesn't move it up. I'll be staying to testify against HB1747, the gun and ammo labeling bill that would mean that no guns or ammo would be manufactured in or shipped to Texas. What an absolute loon!!!

One option that is popular with people wanting to support a bill, but not wanting to stay late in the day, is to sign in (at a House kiosk) to support our gun bills, but not wanting to testify. Those people are on record as supporting the bill, but they don't have to be present when the bill is called. I do that on some bills when there's going to be a lot of testimony by others and I don't feel my expertise is needed and I haven't been specifically requested to testify.

Small correction.... The labeling bill is HB 1747, in case you're keeping score. ;-)

I'll chip in on the bus ticket for this guy to New York City. I think he'd be happier there. I'm sure I'd be happier with him there.

Charles...
What's your spidey senses tell you about the chances of 3218 being reported favorably out of committee? I see several firearms related bills being forwarded to calendars with large margin votes (7-1 on HB 706 [campus carry] and 7-0-2 on HB 508 [Wrongful exclusion], HB 47 [reduced class time] 7-0-2).

Is there a key committee member or two that would benefit from more letters and calls?

Thanks.!

It's an uphill battle to be perfectly candid. Only an overwhelming response from gun owners will get it out of committee and calendars, but it's worth the fight.

To be clear, this takes place at the capitol, correct? I've never been to a hearing before and I'm trying to get a few friends to join. We're a part of UT Austin Students for Concealed Carry. Any helpful info would be appreciated. If any of y'all are on facebook you should like our page and help us out. https://www.facebook.com/UTAustinSCC" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Let's get this bill passed, gents.

Follow the main hallway down (on the map) until you hit the four black dots.
