Who's open to a .380? You, or the (very petite) lady? There are some petite ladies on this forum who can shoot a .45 caliber 1911 just fine, and love doing so. So can my petite wife, and her EDC is a Kahr 9mm. Don't short-change your wife just because
you think she can't handle more. And a .380 isn't always the easiest pistol to shoot because they're often packaged in a very small and lightweight pistol, so perceived recoil is on a par with more powerful pistols.
If that really is all she can handle, then that's fine. But let
her be the determiner of that, and give her opportunities to try other things before forcing a caliber on her that she may not like, and that she won't carry because she doesn't like it. But most of the female students of my Basic Pistol class end up preferring a 9mm or .45 to a .380 just because of the recoil characteristics of the various guns chambered in those calibers.
As in all things, the advice is worth exactly what it cost you.

I think he's looking for pistols, not advice

That's why I added that it's worth exactly what it cost him. And I got no pistols to give, but I got LOTS of advice.

Yeah, I started in on a lengthy advice post, and deleted it. I've got 1911s and 380s, but I'm fond of all of 'em.

I did the same thing.
TheBlake - I did notice that you're in Friendswood so I would like to invite your wife to come out and shoot with us at the Ladies Program at PSC. She doesn't even have to wait until she gets her gun. We meet on the first Saturday of each month (although we'll be taking a break in August), from 8:30 until noon. We're safe, we learn a lot and we have a lot of fun!
Let me know if you have any questions!
Thanks,
T

For both of you. The Sig P238 combines both requests into one.

I love 1911s....love them and have a couple of my own that I'll never get rid of, and will probably acquire more. They don't always go where I go though because of size reasons they can be difficult to conceal. For that reason, I absolutely LOVE my Sig P238.
FWIW, I'm 6'2 and pretty large...I see nothing "girly" about the P238. Smaller caliber, sure, but it shoots like a dream and is quite accurate. It goes in thin hiking shorts, jean pockets, wool slacks, etc. Even when I'm carrying something else, the P238 is still with me in one of my pockets.

BUMP
Still looking, and the advice is very much appreciated. Looked at the 238 the other day while picking up some lures at Academy. Not a bad fit for her and my hand, I would prefer a .45

I started a thread the other day, which is currently on the bottom of page 2, that will interest the P238
fans and prospective buyers.
Academy Sports and Outdoors, from June 17-23, 2012 has P238's on sale for only $479.99.
Sig's list price on these little beauties is $633. Sounds like this week's the time to get one!
