It is an excellent condition Colt King Cobra. Has a scratch on the right hand side below the cylinder.

I am in the Houston area and will sell FTF so that the buyer can inspect the gun first.

However, we MUST go through a FFL dealer. I have one I use and I will pay for the transaction fee.

$650 total. This is cheaper than a new Smith & Wesson revolver with the internal lock.

Just curious...why the requirement to go through an FFL dealer?
I mean we battled for the right for private sales and am just curious why anyone would require paperwork.

The paperwork is to protect the buyer and the seller.

Buyer: how do I know it's not stolen?

Seller: how do I know you won't give it to a criminal?

The seller has every right to make such a stipulation and prospective buyers can take this into consideration when deciding whether to purchase.

I hope no one here is so naive as to believe this.

The paperwork is to allow the government control over its minions, nothing else.

Can you explain how that works?

It's pretty simple, really - the 4473 allows the government to track the gun - involving the Feds into an aspect of our lives where it isn't necessary. It's your gun, and therefore your choice. But bluntly, I was looking and thinking about it until I saw that requirement in your ad. I'm a CHL holder, hold some pretty interesting security clearances due to some of the sites I work at - but frankly, there's no way I'm going to go through a FFL on a private sale. But, as I said - it's certainly within your rights to do so.

Good luck!

I'm taking a course on being a tax preparer, and believe me, the federal government has already exercised its authority over the citizen in ways (via IRS) that would make the 4473 form seem like nothing.

I know a lot of gun enthusiasts, as part of their hobby, enjoy buying and trading firearms frequently; and, avoiding the 4473 form simply allows them to do so without being potentially liable if the gun ends up used in a criminal act. I mean, come on - that's the real reason - not "the man is keeping us down."

While I like the Glock 17 (I have a G19 myself), I am just looking to sell now. Sorry.

Nope. In my case, not even close. I'm not a criminal, and I don't consort with criminals. And I don't involve the government in my private affairs unless the law demands it.

It's a beautiful pistol. Hope you find a buyer. It deserves a good home.
