I know these guys got a bit off topic - from a simple question to a history lesson - however .45 Glock - XD - you name it - is really a nice cal for stopping power without the extra velocity of the of the lower Cal's. I'm not saying a .45 won't blow threw these thin walls, however the larger round does more damage as a self defense weapon (imo) then say the same round in 9mm for self defence.

It's just my personal choice - .40 are nice and so are the 10mm. The original question was just about the writing on the box and round type. A little over kill on answers to the question. :???:

OK, then we need to start a discussion on 9mm (Parabellum/Luger, Kurtz, Makarov...)

That is Kurtz or Kurz. These are all the same: 380 Auto, 9mm Browning, 9mm Corto, 9mm Kurz, 9mm Short, and 9x17mm Whew!! LOL

ACP stands for Automatic Colt Pistol
45 Auto is the same
and yes
45 Colt is different
Maybe someone can detail the History on this. I thought the 45 ACP round was developed before the 1911 pistol. Did Colt develop the 45 ACP ammunition? Or was that someone else? I guess I had thought the only part Colt played in the whole 1911 story was they got the license to manufacture the 1911 pistol after the military selected it.

According to my grandmother, a Cavalry brat whose father, John Sylvanus Loud, served from the "War between the States" to the Spanish American War, although the usage "Long Colt" came into being when she was a child, the average soldier know the difference between "Colt" and "Schofield" and didn't need the "Long" appellation to further differentiate.
On some forums, some people get very upset if someone calls a 45 Colt a 45 Long Colt. They seem to feel it's along the lines as calling a Magazine a Clip.
And it is.

There's actually three 45 autos:
45 ACP, which is the most common and generally what everyone means when they refer to a 45 auto
45 Autorim, much less common and the exact same as a 45 ACP with an added rim for revolvers
45 GAP, Glock Auto Pistol. Don't see many of these, never shot one.
Carry guns:
SIG P239 in 357sig
SIG P239 in 40sw
SIG P220
SIG GSR 1911
All with Crimson Trace Laser Grips

"Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one."
