Couple of Holsters

Hello All Brand new to the sight and really apreciate the wealth of knowledge that I have found here so far and look foward to many more years of continued education.

My Fiance and I just completed the CHL training and packs are off to our State Capital for lamination. I have a copule of holster issues and would love to get some imput. I have seen dozens and dozens of web sites dedicated to custom holsters and more questions then answers.

Glock 27 (hers) and Berretta 9000S (mine) both 40 S&W

Looking for a good leather holseter IWB. Clip or snap to belt is one qeustion. I think clip would be better (more versitile) but would love your thoughts. Also placement. She is a lefty, I am a righty. If the pistol is in the small of your back, would it not make since for the holster to be the opposite of your dominant hand? Almost a reverse cross draw? Then if it is on the side (of the dominant hand, in my case right side) it would be a normal lift and point with palm facing my side. if it is in lower back which is where I "think" I will carry should it not be reversed as the palm becomes inverted or knuckles too your side?

So many questions, apreciate any ideas on right left dominance and also style or names of manufatures.

Not an expert on this, but I had a couple questions for you...

1) Are you aware of the dangers of spinal injury involved in small-of-the-back carry?

2) When you say reverse-cross-draw, are you thinking of having the grip so that your fingers would go between the grip & your back? Most of the carry I've seen that went past about 4:30 still had the grip canted towards the strong hand with the grip pointing up (so to speak) so that the thumb goes between the grip and your back. I suspect that the only way to set it up so that you could easily get your fingers between the grip & your back would leave the grip sticking out too much to keep it from printing.

It would defenitley be a hand to the back with fingers outward if I was reaching toward 4:30. That is what feels the best. So the "propper way" then is thumb to the skin and knuckles out when drawing? Also no, I am not familiar with the spine injury issue you discussed from the "6:00 " position in the small of the back.

I'm right-handed, so 4:30 puts it just behind my right hip.

Fingers to back sounds like it would massively slow down the draw (I'm thinking trying to insert fingers between gun & back sounds 4x harder than inserting thumb between gun & back). Also, if you put fingers to back, when you bring the gun out of the holster, you have to sweep yourself with the muzzle. This is a violation of Rule #2 (don't point the gun at anything you're not willing to destroy).

I don't think there's a right/wrong on this. Just my opinion here.

The spine injury issue is what if you have the gun small-of-back and fall on your back? Landing hard with a nard object between your spine & the ground can be VERY painful and can do majorly serious damage. If you have it on your side & land on it, it's still painful, but you won't injure your spine.

Certainly sound advice. I will have a feel of both but the point of rule number 2 pretty much answers the problem. Thanks for your help!
