On the flip side I've got an 809 that I love and it reliably eats anything fed to it. I think I just had a lemon 709.CoffeeNut wrote:When I was researching before I bought mine a few years ago I recall finding on Taurus forums that there was indeed an older model that had reliability issues. Taurus subsequently issued, quietly, a generation two that addressed these issues.
Mine is the "new" model and it's been flawless with everything I've fed it and I carry it from time to time. I've run into quite a few people that have a 709 and like it a lot which cannot be said about every Taurus handgun.
The Bass Pro price is shockingly decent too considering I paid $299 at Academy for it. I did manage to find a spare mag at Academy not that long ago for $28.
I'm glad to see a report on here about the Advantage Tactical sights because I've wanted to ditch the stock ones for awhile.

Re: Taurus PT709 for sale at Bass Pro Shops
I have a two week old 709.
So far, I have put 100 rounds through it without a problem.
Will put at least another 100 on it this weekend.
Apart from the usual grumble everyone has about them only coming with one mag (its cheap of them), the one grumble I have is that the sights are not the best... Bright white dots for sure, but the adjustment could be better. Just my opinion, but for $269 at Gander Mountain, my complaint is not too strong at all.
EDIT/UPDATE: Now nearly 300 rounds and zero misfire/feed issues.
