Open-Carry Poll

#1

Post by Charles L. Cotton »

If passing open-carry would result in many businesses posting 30.06 signs prohibiting both open-carry and concealed-carry, would you support an open-carry bill?

The purpose of this poll is to determine priorities, nothing else. If you cannot accept the premise upon which this poll is drafted, then please don't answer.

"As worded" this should be a slam dunk.

Of course, I voted NO as will everyone else.

Hopefully...there will also be a poll to see how many people feel this is likely. ;-)

I do accept the premise...and acknowlege it is a possibility.

I voted NO.

If the analysis is that an Open carry law would further end up restricting my right to carry, then no, I would not support such a bill. I Have no personal desire to openly carry, but I do want the law, so that if, for what ever reason the MWAG call goes out... cus my shirt blew up,,,, open carry, CCW, still covered by A law.

Though I get it,, there is still the parts about inciting fear........ blah.. blah...

I had to vote no, although I would like the option of open carrying.

I am the lone vote yes so far.

I don't think that that many more places will post 30.06 if OC passes.

That wasn't the question. It was IF it would cause them to post more 30.06 signs, would you want it? So, IMO your vote was not on the question.

Basically you voted that you want open carry no matter how badly it damages the rights of gun owners.

I did not vote for the following reason:
30.06 is the big ugly sign. There is another sign for unlicensed carry on premesie. Why not another third sign, no visible gun sign? Each business has the right to select to post no OC sign or no CHL sign or none.

Exactly. Charles even states that to vote, one must agree to the condition that it would increase 30.06 postings. We understand your position that it would not, but that isn't the question. If you cannot accept that possibility for this poll then you should not have voted.

I respect Charles immeasurably. I understand why he worded the poll the way he did. I have read every one of his posts over the years regarding open carry.

I have experience open carrying in multiple states. I have never had a problem, although I will freely admit I never OCed where there was a perceived risk of it being an issue.

I read the poll before I posted my answer.

I am of the belief that people who are raised in states that value freedom and liberty are basically the same everywhere. Now that we have tasted the freedom of CC over the years I do not think that the number of posted places would increase all that much.

That is my belief.

I doubt very seriously that we will see open carry legalized in Texas in the next two or three mlegislatures. There is too much other work to be done. OC is not even a priority with me, but it would be nice. I would be fine with licensed OC too, although I think it is an infringement, an unreasonable restriction.

Sorry if it seems I did not play by the rules, but the rules did not fit my beliefs. If the mods think my posts are inappropriate because they did not fit the requirements, I respect their decision to remove them and my vote.

I freely admitted that some postings will increase, but in my admission I also stated that I believe they will not be rampant as is the belief held here by others.

There will always be repercussions to changes in firearms laws. Not everyone plays by the rules. How many government properties are posted improperly? How many governments are going to post because of OC if it passes?

How many think that the parking lot bill will solve the parking lot issue everywhere?

How many think that colleges will welcome CHLers with open arms if campus carry is passed?

The parking lot bill WILL solve the issue as it will be illegal to prohibit someone from having a gun in their car if they can legally posses it. If an employer fires you over the issue, then they can be sued for wrongful termination.

And, many colleges won't like the campus carry law, but that isn't the point. There are cities and other government entities that may not like CHL, but they can't prohibit it. Campus carry will be a law and they can't prohibit you from carrying within the law or they too can be sued.

:iagree:
They don't have to welcome me, but I don't care if they welcome me or not. There are a lot of laws that employers don't like, but they still follow them. The same goes for thousands of other laws. I'm not a huge fan of speed limits, but I obey them.
