Knockout game taken to a higher level.

So if he was armed and shot some of them, would there be protests?

Noting that it was 1:15 AM, I suspect he was coming home from getting hammered and got more than he bargained for.

I understand your point about nothing good happens after midnight but our right to be free of this type of behavior does not end at any certain time of day. To make this statement as many do is plain wrong and almost makes it seem as though these thugs are justified because they waited until after a certain time of day. We should not have to live our lives in a certain manner or at a certain time of the day to be safe. The time of day does not justify this type of action. To make statements life this does nothing good and only desensitizes the crime committed on this person.

No, not really true. There are always at least two ways of approaching articles like this. What can be done to defend against an attack like this? And what can be done to avoid an attack like this? Not walking down the street in the middle of the night falls in the second approach. Sure, you can claim you have a right to go anywhere you want, but you should be prepared and know what you are walking into. Not all areas are going to pose a heightened threat in the middle of the night, but some places do. You should know your area.

Seriously? You are going to lecture me? Where did I ever say the thugs were justified?

It isn't "either-or" anyway. Both sides of the story are relevant.

I have an absolute right to walk through the worst neighborhood in Houston with a Rolex on each wrist carrying my iPhone 6 Plus, stop to observe a group of mingling disadvantaged youths and laugh hysterically at their odd choice of clothes.

Noting that better behavior choices are available to me in no way implies that their robbery, beating and murder would in some way be justified.

So, if you have a heart attack at 3AM, will you be satisfied with leaving a voice mail for the paramedics to come over in the morning?

Not everyone has the luxury of an 8-5 job.

My point is that the responsibility for another's actions should not be shifted to the victim simply because they were out at an "odd" hour of the night. So why do we insist on lightening what the perpetrators have done by implying the victim could have stayed in the house and not been present "after midnight ". This is the same type of desensitizing that is being done when people call a semi auto rifle an "assault rifle". By the way I agree that you should have and do have all the freedoms you mention above.

Obviously the Bosnian community has not bought into the collectivist gibs-me-dat looter riot way of living.

I wonder if the attackers passed the required background checks prior to obtaining the hammers used in the assault?

There are some signs of percolating anger growing, although I'd bet heavily that the Bosnian community is smart enough not to burn down their own businesses.

Balkan-area Europeans might be willing to use some targeted violence to gain revenge. And they do hold grudges, just look at how many wars there've been in the Balkans.

Just because someone has "the right" to do something, that does not necessarily imply it is a wise choice. Pointing out that it is a poor decision is a separate and distinct point from also pointing out that a thug is committing a crime.

I cannot control the behavior of criminals but I can improve my odds of superior outcomes if I live my life in such a way to make wise choices.

The Bosnian community is not happy. They want more police.

The logic is so unmistakeable, but some how the TV news and the Justice Department somehow misses it.
