In the Bronx (New York City) three men held up a bodega around 2 a.m. Friday. The victims were the owner of the store and his 20-year-old nephew. The robbers ordered the victims to lie on the floor and threatened them with a firearm.

A passer-by observed the robbery and called the police, who turned out like gangbusters.

The robbers realized that they were having a really bad day and tried to flee through a rear door.

The victims then took the opportunity to run out the front entrance. The older man immediately identified himself as the victim. The younger man reportedly ran into a police officer who had a drawn sidearm. The younger man was fatally shot.

A police spokesman pronounced the shooting an accident.

All three robbers have been apprehended and charged with murder.

Two unusual aspects:
  • One suspect fled straight to the police, claiming that he had been held hostage. The police did not believe him, and arrested him.
  • A second suspect was found tied up in the store, also claiming to have been held hostage.

I'm glad I don't have to pay for the liability insurance of the NYPD.

Is he being charged with manslaughter like citizens and taxpayers would if they shot somebody "by accident" in New York?

New York version:
It's Glock's fault.
Design Defect.
Would have never happened if there hadn't been a trigger on the contraption.

He ran into an officer and “they became entangled,” Mr. Browne said. At that point, he added, “a round goes off.”

Mr. Cuevas fell to the sidewalk, Mr. Browne said, adding that the officer was partly knocked down.

“We believe it was an accidental discharge,” Mr. Browne said.
It looks more like the officer fired and jumped on top of him, judging from the video.

The body count of innocents shot by the police in NY appears to be growing higher by the day. No wonder that Mayor Bloomy doesn't want any guns in the city. They are going off all by themselves and shooting (or ricocheting ) innocents instead of BGs. I'm sure it is solar radiation or something that is causing all of the NYC LE errors.

Prayers for the young man who was shot and his family.

Lesson learned: No matter how much of an adrenal dump is going on, sudden moves around LE might be more of a problem for victims than the BGs are.

Hey now, as has been said often enough to make it sound good... the safety of police officers is paramount.

They're the only ones professional enough to gun down their victims and call it an accident.

I'd bet that the officer will say that he felt in danger, not knowing, if this was a BG or victim and was justified in shooting first and asking questions later. I'd also bet that Mayor Doomberg retracts his statement that it was an accident and says that, although regrettable, under the circumstances the officer was justified. I don't know what the stats are, but there are lots of folks that are getting no billed or acquitted after shooting someone when they felt threatened.

Any morally just city that prosecuted Goetz for shooting robbers in the act would prosecute this guy for shooting the robbers' victim. But that is NYC, a wretched hive of scum and villainy.
