I did hear the assault rifle phrase used on news coverage. It was also announced that he was carrying an AR-15, a Remington 870 shotgun and 2 glock 40 cal. It was a bit unclear and reported differently by different people but the way I understood it was that he had at least all but 1 of the glocks, which was in his car.
CNN and Fox both say AR-15 now, but one of them (I think both, actually) said AK-47 earlier.

BTW, The "ban guns" people are all over the blogs wanting gun laws... I knew that rhetoric would be brought up.
Would be interesting if someone knew if this theater was posted, would show that only law abiding citizens are disarmed.
I've heard they had some sort of "unenforceable" sign up, but I can't even remember where I heard that, let alone vouch for its accuracy.

Any sign in Colorado is unenforceable unless it is on an already prohibited locaiton. Any busines sopen to the public must tell you to leave and you must refuse before you are breaking the law.

Yep, earlier they were reporting "an AK47 type rifle".

That leaves only the age restriction for CHL that shows why apparently no CHL's were present.

You don't know that 'no CHL's were present'. Even if they were present, there are hundreds of reasons why they might not be shooting back.

There are a LOT of things that went real bad with this terrible attack. The attacker had gear, so he at least EXPECTED to get fired on by police. He used tear gas, to disrupt and cause chaos. He went to a dark location that was likely POSTED for no carry of weapons. IF the location were posted, even if outside of the law, it was still in his favor which he possible knew. How many on here constantly say, "Well, when I see a gunbuster, I know they are antigun, and they aren't getting my business"? The hour was late and the crowd was young...this dude did as much as he could to set himself up to murder as many people as he could WITH FIREARMS in a situation where he might be reasonably sure no one would fire back. He could have easily built an IED and used it to inflict more casualties, but he didn't...he WANTED to inflict pain on those people PERSONALLY, not just to have a bodycount. The whole darned thing stinks in more ways that one. Killers like this sack of trash make me sick, and so do the liberals who feed off of them for their own political aims.

Guns purchased at two Gander Mountain, and two Bass Pro shops. All purchased legally.
