"UPDATE - FRIDAY 4:45PM CST: Contrary to media reports, costumes are not banned, but we will not admit guests with face-concealing masks and we will not allow fake weapons in the buildings. We want all our guests to feel comfortable at our theatres and we will be closely monitoring."

AMC lost my business a good while back. 8"x11" 30.06 signs posted (silly them, but still...) + too many gang banger types = an environment where I definitely will not bring the family.

Re: Gunfire during Dark Night Rises
It appears the guy bought a ticket, sat in the theater for 15 minutes, got up and propped open a back door to the theater. He then left, got in his car and drove around to the back of the theater where he got dressed and armed himself then entered through the propped open back door and started shooting.

You would think the emergency exits would be alarmed. I seem to remember kids opening those back doors to let their friends in without paying -- many many years ago. Yes the movies were 'talkies'.

Hope they use more of your interview at the ten o'clock hour. At 5:00, I think you got a total of 15 words.Charles L. Cotton wrote:I'm about to do a TV interview for KHOU CH 11 in Houston.
Chas.
But you had the best background, outdoors in front of a nice fountain.
Wasn't happy to hear anchor Shern-Min Chow say, at the end of the segment, something to the effect of: "We are looking into, and will have a report later, about the availability in our area of the high-powered firearms the shooter used...and just how powerful they are."
Latest data I've seen said he carried an AR-15, a Remy 870, and a Glock .40 into the theater. I hope the reporters aren't shocked to discover that these are pretty much basic staple firearms and are available virtually everywhere that sells guns.

He entered the theater and purchased a ticket. Sat down and waited for a while then left via the fire exit. Propped it open so he could come back in. Went and got his car. Drove the car up to the emergency exit. Got all his guns and equipment suited up and then burst in at an appropriate time in the movie. They are saying 71 people were killed or injured. 8 people in the next theater were injured.
Sounded like he was primarily using his AR-15.
Apparently recreating a scene in the comic book. Hair painted red, thinks he is the Joker. People were shot while they were trying to escape.

Watching some of the interviews it seems the exit door that he propped open was in the theater itself. I don't understand why these doors aren't monitored via a system that can alert when the doors are accessed since nobody should be using those doors once the movie starts. This should become a concern if the door is opened and alarmed for any extended period of time.sjfcontrol wrote:You would think the emergency exits would be alarmed. The text of an email I just sent to the Fox News News Manager:
The rifle he used is not an Assault Rifle.
Even the Chief of Police said "Assualt" and he was totally wrong!
Please tell all your Producers and Anchors to stop using this term. It is incorrect and plays into the LEFT's Agenda!
The rifle he used was a semi-automatic Armalite Rifle (AR) - Not Assault!
FYI an Assault Rifle is a SELECT FIRE (or full auto) Rifle. NOT a semi-automatic. Big difference and your Anchors sound pretty foolish using this inaccurate term.

From one of the articles:
"The suspect was in possession of a clip with more than 20 rounds, a federal official said, that would have been illegal under an assault rifle ban that expired in 2004. "
Its going to start.
A really terrible event.
My sincere condolences to the victims and their families.
As one mother said "you can't even drop your kids off at the movies and have them be safe anymore"

I don't think anyone (Media outlets) and that includes FOX news really cares whether or not they get the terminology right. I do applaud your efforts in this matter.AEA wrote:The text of an email I just sent to the Fox News News Manager:

Edited to clarify my use of the term anyone.

Yes, in my youth the emergency doors were below and to the side of the screen. In an emergency (fire) it allowed you to exit either to the rear (lobby) or toward the front which would exit to the parking lot. There is no legitimate reason for those doors to be open during the movie (unless there's a fire). Some would exit the building through those doors at the end of the movie if closer or faster path to their car.Right2Carry wrote:Watching some of the interviews it seems the exit door that he propped open was in the theater itself. And on one national news station ..that rifle and the Glock both can have an "extended clip" used in them.philip964 wrote:From one of the articles:

I was at home today and I wouldn't think that short clip was worth their drive to Friendswood. They did pretty much the same thing to Gerald Treece.Skiprr wrote:Hope they use more of your interview at the ten o'clock hour. At 5:00, I think you got a total of 15 words.Charles L.
