This prank is the kind of foolishness that gets people hurt or in a lot of trouble. It's not worth the few laughs you'll get out of it.anygunanywhere wrote:I never thought that this type of stuff was funny.
The first time our house was targeted when my sons were young I had come home about 1 AM from an EMS response and found the yard in a mess. I woke them up and made them clean it up. Not so much fun.
My sons warned their friends about such night time mischief. They advised their friends that they did not want to wake me up at night. We lived in the rural county and I often got up at night to investigate noises.
Not that I would have shot anyone over TP in the yard, but actions have consequences.
I found out that often some of the parents actually participated in these events. I advised them that they had better rethink their actions.
Never had any issues after that.

1. It was obviously some type of bird shot. He isn't being charged with attempted murder the the article referred to it as "peppered". Doesn't strike me as any sort of serious injury. It also didn't say how far away it was or how dark it was or what if any confrontation occured.
2. There is no statement at all from the shooter. We have absolutely no idea what he saw or thought he saw. You don't know if he knew it was a toilet paper prank or something else or if they were carrying something that looked more suspicious. IMO, those who claim there is "no moral or legal justification" for this shoot should amend that to say no "apparent" justification. We only know a few basic facts.
3. Lastly, in my experience as a past teenager and otherwise, teenagers are often habitual liars and will say or hide anything to get out of what ever wrong doing they might be in trouble for even to the point of convincing themselves they are right and justified. I am not trying to defend the guys, I just want to hear the whole story before condemning him. Of course, the charges are short of attempt murder so I don't know how serious they are.
On that other hand, I am having a hard time figuring out how he would be justified in shooting if this was just your typical TP prank with nothing else going on.
Pretty certain however, the shooter is about to get sued out of his mind.

YUP I would own his house. I have had my house TP'd before (2 teenage daughters) and I am sure they have done it back. It's a harmless prank and I'd probably end up in jail if somebody shot my daughters or son over TP.

And thats why we have the law to prosecute people who do things like this, to avoid vigilante justice.YUP I would own his house. Maybe not. This is Texas and many juries still take a dim view of the Yankee notion that criminals should be rewarded for being stupid enough to get shot in the act.texanjoker wrote:YUP I would own his house.Cedar Park Dad wrote:Pretty certain however, the shooter is about to get sued out of his mind.

They were in my yard literally fighting 10 or15 feet from our bedroom window at about 12:30 or 1:00 A.M. with a crowd of 20 to 30 people around them yelling.MechAg94 wrote:Imagine the news headlines if one of those punks came at you with or without a weapon and you ended up shooting. Probably half of them would be trying to explain the wet pants to their parents.
When we lived in Houston a neighbors party turned into a fight in our front yard after we had gone to bed. You should have seen them scatter when I stepped out the front door with the 12 Ga. I was in just my underwear.
I did not fire the gun and I didn’t even point it in their direction. I yelled at them to get out of the yard and go fight somewhere else.
If one of those punks charged an old man holding a 12 gauge at “port arms” with or without his pants on, that would constitute Terminal Stupidity in my opinion.
God Bless America, and please hurry.

He may not have been portrayed in a good light but I believe he would be justified in shooting if the drunk people who were already beating on each other charged at him.VoiceofReason wrote:They were in my yard literally fighting 10 or15 feet from our bedroom window at about 12:30 or 1:00 A.M. with a crowd of 20 to 30 people around them yelling.MechAg94 wrote:Imagine the news headlines if one of those punks came at you with or without a weapon and you ended up shooting. Its not a Yankee notion thinking that teenagers tping a house are not criminals. Thats utter nonsense or my British friends would say "bullocks!"bizarrenormality wrote:Maybe not. Again, you should hope the legal system goes after the shooter, before the parents do. As you say, if this were Texas, things happen.
Amazingly, I'd challenge anyone to find a jury of 12 people that take the view shooting at teenagers TPING A HOUSE as acceptable. PLaintiff attorneys would take this case in 7.35 seconds.

Re: Teen shot while TP principal's hous
There is a difference in teaching kids respects and maybe yelling a bit cause they TP'ed your house and an ENTIRELY different thing for shooting them over that. I'm all for the protect your property and don't take crap from people, but there is a line. Shooting a kid over toilet paper is moronic, and he deserves to be fined heftly for it.Cedar Park Dad wrote:Its not a Yankee notion thinking that teenagers tping a house are not criminals. Just for the sake of discussion, suppose they were spray painting your house and car and slashing the tires on your car. I don’t want my opinion to sway you either way so I will wait until I get yours.
God Bless America, and please hurry.

At my house, it is trespassing, malicious mischief and desecration/destruction of private property as well as littering. The law will be called and charges will be filed.

Someone shooting at kids TPing a house seems to be saying, however good or bad my life is now, I'd really really like it to be much much worse.
