Teen shot while TP principal's hous

I never thought that this type of stuff was funny.

The first time our house was targeted when my sons were young I had come home about 1 AM from an EMS response and found the yard in a mess. I woke them up and made them clean it up. Not so much fun.

My sons warned their friends about such night time mischief. They advised their friends that they did not want to wake me up at night. We lived in the rural county and I often got up at night to investigate noises.

Not that I would have shot anyone over TP in the yard, but actions have consequences.

I found out that often some of the parents actually participated in these events. I advised them that they had better rethink their actions.

Never had any issues after that.

This prank is the kind of foolishness that gets people hurt or in a lot of trouble. It's not worth the few laughs you'll get out of it.

OKay, a few comments after seeing the article and some of the posts.

1. It was obviously some type of bird shot. He isn't being charged with attempted murder the the article referred to it as "peppered". Doesn't strike me as any sort of serious injury. It also didn't say how far away it was or how dark it was or what if any confrontation occured.
2. There is no statement at all from the shooter. We have absolutely no idea what he saw or thought he saw. You don't know if he knew it was a toilet paper prank or something else or if they were carrying something that looked more suspicious. IMO, those who claim there is "no moral or legal justification" for this shoot should amend that to say no "apparent" justification. We only know a few basic facts.
3. Lastly, in my experience as a past teenager and otherwise, teenagers are often habitual liars and will say or hide anything to get out of what ever wrong doing they might be in trouble for even to the point of convincing themselves they are right and justified. I am not trying to defend the guys, I just want to hear the whole story before condemning him. Of course, the charges are short of attempt murder so I don't know how serious they are.

On that other hand, I am having a hard time figuring out how he would be justified in shooting if this was just your typical TP prank with nothing else going on.

Pretty certain however, the shooter is about to get sued out of his mind.

YUP I would own his house. I have had my house TP'd before (2 teenage daughters) and I am sure they have done it back. It's a harmless prank and I'd probably end up in jail if somebody shot my daughters or son over TP.

There is no justification for the man shooting at the teens. Had he stepped out and fired into the ground just a couple of feet from himself, the teens would have scattered like roaches. Probably half of them would be trying to explain the wet pants to their parents.

When we lived in Houston a neighbors party turned into a fight in our front yard after we had gone to bed. You should have seen them scatter when I stepped out the front door with the 12 Ga. I was in just my underwear.

Imagine the news headlines if one of those punks came at you with or without a weapon and you ended up shooting. I really doubt you would be portrayed in a good light.

They were in my yard literally fighting 10 or15 feet from our bedroom window at about 12:30 or 1:00 A.M. with a crowd of 20 to 30 people around them yelling.

I did not fire the gun and I didn’t even point it in their direction. I yelled at them to get out of the yard and go fight somewhere else.

If one of those punks charged an old man holding a 12 gauge at “port arms” with or without his pants on, that would constitute Terminal Stupidity in my opinion.

There is a difference in teaching kids respects and maybe yelling a bit cause they TP'ed your house and an ENTIRELY different thing for shooting them over that. I'm all for the protect your property and don't take crap from people, but there is a line. Shooting a kid over toilet paper is moronic, and he deserves to be fined heftly for it.

At your house, it is a harmless prank.

At my house, it is trespassing, malicious mischief and desecration/destruction of private property as well as littering. The law will be called and charges will be filed.
