If it was a professional hit, the guy would not have asked the R or D question. He’d have known, and he’d have been wearing baseball practice togs. He’d have had a great position to mow them down in the dugout. Ironic that Scalise is the worst hit, and it’s only because he was there that they had 2 capitol cops at all. Otherwise, a dugout massacre. I’m guessing at this point an AK with unzeroed iron sights, and a shooter with no range time. If it had been somebody with a red-dot on an AR, and a guy with training, it would be ten dead and twenty wounded. I’m guessing target of opportunity for a left wing nut on the verge of going violent anyway, who just couldn’t pass up the golden opportunity.

A pro would have had a carbine with a red dot sight in a bat bag, and he would have snuck right onto the field to keep them penned inside the dugout and fenced areas. Or if he wanted more distance, he’d have found a perch with a view down into the dugout.

Chuck Schumer spoke in the senate today about the shooting and thanking the capital police protection detail for their brave action in preventing what would have been a massacre had they not been there with their guns. (I added the gun part)

Prayers for all those injured. The vitriolic rhetoric being spewed by politicians and the media has turned into even more violence than we've been seeing with the Antifa. It's not surprising it took place at a Republican event. IMHO. Sadly Terry McAuliffe didn't miss an opportunity to use this tragic incident to advance his anti-gun rhetoric.

He's from the place I lived in Illinois before moving to Texas. Obviously he (or someone) put some planning into this to travel from IL to VA.

If so, all I can say is "well... bye!" That guy has got some explaining to do to the man upstairs!

I'm glad to see at least early congressmen not knee-jerking to remove people's rights, although I'm sure Sen. Feinstein will re-introduce her AWB bill for the 745th time. Hopefully it fails again.

I'm thankful as everyone else for the great work of the police in this case. But, we can't always count on a cop to be there.

Just heard an Republican Congressman whose name I can't recall say how happy he was to hear return fire from presumably Capitol Police, because for a little while the shots kept coming only from one direction.

Suspect is from Illinois, a 12 hour drive. Did he drive there just for this or was he in the area for some other reason and just flipped? It will be interesting to see what comes out.

Horrible attack, I hope those injured speedily recover, and fully healed, as well.

Obviously, the shooter was not a "gun guy". Anyone with any real interest in firearms knows that DC is a massive "gun-free zone", and that despite Supreme Court decisions to the contrary, the laws against firearms there are incredibly restrictive. Which really only goes to show that criminals, terrorists, and those with serious mental problems don't really care about laws if they are bound and determined to hurt/kill others. The only thing that will stop them, or limit the destruction, continues to be effective armed defense.
