Susan Sciacca, 55, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. According to the Tomball, Texas, police, she said she became angry after a vehicle cut her off as she drove along a suburban Houston highway last Friday afternoon. She then followed the vehicle into a local credit union parking lot and pulled up alongside the car, police told ABC News.
Based on her earlier tales to Tomball police, I'm not ready to believe anything she says about the other driver.

Little thread resurrection here. Just ran across an update this case:

Former Harris County attorney sentenced in road rage case

Susan Sciacca was found guilty Thursday of aggravated assault of [sic] a deadly weapon."

"Sciacca was given two years probation for the crime."

I learned through other articles that after her arrest the DA's office demoted her to paralegal but kept the same pay.

Her license to practice law is suspended while she is appealing her conviction. If she receives a final conviction she will be disbarred.

Petition for Compulsory Discipline

She did not testify on her own behalf at her trial. Her attorney says this was a mistake, and it was due to "duplicitous" information by the State.
(Given the details the attorney presents, I am having a hard time fathoming why he thought not having her testify was a good idea. The "surprise witness" that the State was going to come up with doesn't seem like a big threat to me since he was convicted of an attack on her -- 20 years ago.)

She appealed her conviction, and did receive a new trial:
"Her attorney, Lisa Andrews, said the new trial was granted because some of the legally required paragraphs were left out of the jury charge."

Public trust?...Wow, in this case we have a county prosecutor who created a situation where by lying, attempted to send an innocent person to jail. If not for the cameras this guy would have likely been screwed.

Our society is increasingly being overrun by narcissists. The only thing that mattered to her was revenge on a total stranger for an inconsequential act. She is supposed to represent and uphold the law, but she sees it a personal tool to manipulate to her own need.

The good guys really don't stand a chance.

ELB - Thank you for the update!
It looks like I was wrong in my prediction.
She was convicted of a felony and will be disbarred if her appeal is not successful.
It makes me wonder if she was offered a plea bargain and turned it down.
Now I wonder if her appeal is granted she she will be given an opportunity to cop a plea to a misdemeanor. :headscratch

Maybe barry will give her a pardon on the way out of office.

A white female attorney, CHL holder from Texas charged with a firearms violation? I wouldn't bet the farm on it.

Harris County DA office. The office prosecuting pro-lifers. The office where an ADA is on the PP board of directors.

I rest my case.

I do not believe the President's power of pardon extends to those convicted of state crimes, only federal ones.

The attorney in question does not work in the District Attorney's office. She works -- or used to -- in the County Attorney's office doing civil cases. It took me awhile to catch on to this, because in the initial newspaper report (linked in the OP) it quotes her as telling the 911 operator that "I'm a prosecutor." I assumed this meant she was an assistant district attorney, but in fact she was an assistant county attorney, and all the newspaper articles are consistent that she worked for the County Attorney (plus the Texas Bar lists that as her duty as well).

I was not aware that county attorneys were called "prosecutors" but that doesn't mean they're not. I would be interested to know that definitively.

How will his Harris County handmaidens explain hiring such a right wing gun nut in the first place?

I'm just blowing smoke I know there is no limit to double standards with this administration

OK. I give.

It was still a good point.

She could still have a career in law. Maybe work out of an old Winnebago instead of a 25th floor suite, maybe take a little cut in pay, maybe work as general counsel for quirky three-letter gun organizations... :biggrinjester:
