Jeff Cooper Passed...

Hello. The man who contributed much to the world of firearms and particularly handgunning has passed. He died quietly at home this afternoon.
Col. Cooper was never one to leave a person wondering what side of an issue he was on and while I did not always agree with his opinions, I respected them and him.
As most probably know, he was and had been a leading advocate of the .45 ACP and 1911 pattern pistol and presented ideas on shooting and training that were considered novel at the time though more the norm today.
I met this man a time or two and he was most cordial on these occassions, but I cannot say that we knew each other, just chatted a few moments at NRA conventions.
In any event, Col. Cooper's passing while not a pure "gun issue" is at least "gun-related."
Best.

I just read about it on another forum.
Rest in peace, Col. Cooper.

Anything Jeff Cooper said, wrote, or did was gun related for all of us. I never met him but read from my youth. He will be missed in the shooting community. Thank you for the post. I very seldom go anywhere but here.

Hello, sir. You are most welcome. It is not a happy posting, but one I thought might be of importance to many shooters.
Best.

"We [must] emphasize again that the terms liberty and freedom are not equivalent. Freedom is a physical condition denoting the absence of bonds or bondage. Liberty, on the other hand, is a political condition certified by the social right to do whatever does not infringe upon the liberty of your neighbor. You are free once you have jumped over the fence, but liberty is not a characteristic of the nanny state in which the government tells you what you must or must not do in all aspects of your life. A man may live a quite satisfactory life without either freedom or liberty, if he is that sort of man. Such a man manifests the slave personality, and may be kept happy as long as he is sure of "bread and games." Men - some men - may be willing to fight for liberty, but they will not do so until they understand exactly what is involved." -- Jeff Cooper
Thank you Col. Cooper for your life. We are better for having known you.

I am one of many who have never met Jeff Cooper, but just knowing about him has made a positive change in our lives. I very much enjoyed his stories, whether in print or on video. While I will miss not hearing new insights or topics from Col. Cooper, he will live on in his work.
