WIll be in the Dallas area at the end of May, drivng down to pick up my kids and will have a couple days to kill before they get there. I am bringing one or both of my firearms, not sure yet (9mm and .380) and may hit up a range for something to do. Any advice and what is the average range fees I should expect to pay?

Driving down from where?

I think the range fees are from about $12-$25 depending on where your go and whether it is for an hour or the whole day.

Dallas Pistol Club has matches on the week end that are open to the public. Lots of fun.

Here is the web site. http://www.dallaspistolclub.com/competition.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Elm Fork is a nice outdoor range in Irving. DFW Gun Range is on Mockingbird off 35. Bass Pro Shop in Grapevine has a nice range. Targetmasters in Garland is one of mine favorite ranges although too far from my home. I think Bass Pro Shop is $12 an hour. The others are all just under $20.

I just bought a new AR, not sure the legalities of transporting it around the different states but it sure would be fun to shoot it while I had some free time, much cheaper to shoot than my pistol.

You couldn't shoot the AR at Bass Pro shop unless you reserved their one rifle range. You probably don't want to do that. Elm Fork has multiple rifle ranges. Targetmasters has a 50 yard indoor rifle range. DFW gun range allows ARs on their 25 yard pistol ranges.

Its not a true AR, it is an M&P 15.22 if that matters. I am just not sure enough about the laws while transporting it in the states I will be going through, prob will just stick to my CCW

I would not recommend BP's rifle tube. It's not horrible, but it is strange. It's like shooting down one of those big corrugate pipe things that go underneath a driveway except it's about 100 yards long. And they got so tired of people shooting out the light and target retrieval mechanism that they won't allow anyone to shoot there without a scope. I thought they guy told me 3x power or greater, but not sure.

+1 for Elm Form. They also won't let you on their 100 yard range without a 3x+ scope, but you can shoot the 50 and 25 yard areas without a scope if you don't have one.

+1

I've been shooting out there for several decades now. Good folks. Like you, it's a bit of a drive but I've rarely ever regretted it.
