Private Range (my range) issues

#1

Post by Fourman »

Been a while since I have posted but I am looking for info here is the general info:

About 3 months ago my bro and his friend was shooting at our "range". Shooting the AK, 45, AR15, XD9 into the dirt berm that has been there for about 7 years. Then SO stopped by to let him know that someone is complaining about his shooting. Since he was not doing anything wrong he left (laughing also).

Fast forward to beginning of June.....

My bro (man he shoots a ton) was again having fun with the AK Saturday late afternoon. Then at 11pm I get a nice visit from SO looking into a call about our property smelling like a meth-house???? He right away knew that we don't cook (must be I have all my teeth) I let him know he was more than happy to check things out since I have nothing here to hide.....

The following Sunday morning we have a nice get together and shoot AR, AK, 45ACP, 9mm, 410, 12 for about 3 hours. At the start (about 9am) we joke about last night and wonder when SO will show. About 1/2 hour we get a visit (same SO from a few months ago, laughing and saying "I knew it was you guys") He then said that whoever it was needs to move back to Austin. He also said that they were stating that our bullets were flying over their heads. Keep in mind that our backwall is 90 deg off from them and the whole Home Owner group there that is trying to stop us.

Now fast forward to the following week.....

I get home with a citation notice that my burm is in the 100 year flood plain and it is a building now (it has been there for about 7 years).

I have talked to others nearby and they said that this group about 2 years ago tried to get wilco to ban all shooting in Western Williamson County.

Now fast foward to this week...

I got the 911 tapes from Williamson County and sure enough that same neighbor did do all the calls and also say I was a meth/crack house. To top if off she is also saying because we are a meth/crack house that is why we are shooting (practing is what she said). On top of that she is also claiming:

1. Burnett County came out and told her we would be shooting into traffic if it were not for the dirt (we are shooting 90 deg off and Burentt did not come out...I called to ask.
2. We are shooting at the kids in the creek area (that is downrange, but that is my land not theirs. The land owner downrange from me to completely okay with me...he is even thinking of shooting there also)
3. We have full auto weapons (we do not...yet) and illegal clips (I did not know Texas has an illegal clip law)

I now have a permit for the dirt berm and working on getting a PE to sign off on it. The Health Department says that it is in the 100 year flood plain and I must adhere to FEMA rules. The Health Department does not care that I am shooting into the dirt.

So I am still shooting at my range. I would have been more that happy to talk to her about her issues, but after listening to the 911 calls we are far past that. I am also getting info that she is in a land grab on two sides of my property....so that could be another reason.

I have all docs about this online if anyone is interested.

Can I come shoot too?

Seriously, it sounds like there could be a false complaint charge out of the details as posted. Would the SO pursue that avenue? Could get everything to stop fast.

I plan to have many shoots out here (to remind her I am still here) A few of them will have class 3 with papers also. I just don't want large 50's just yet. I am in the process of working with my Permit and a PE to make the backstop much larger and thicker also. Another plan is to get the range DPS CHL approved....from what I can see that can give me some more legal paths if need be.

Please email me about shooting....I am every weekend nowdays

As Kalrog mentioned, making a false report to get the sheriff's office to send an officer out is a felony.

Sounds like talking to a lawyer makes sense if you can afford it -- and maybe if you cannot. :smash:

I too want to come shoot. Maybe we could hold a marathon -- 24 hours straight with no minute not having at least one bang. :fire

Suppose there is a Guinness record for something like that? :biggrinjester:

Wow, sounds like the liberal element from Austin has migrated out to Liberty Hill.

I guess it's changed a lot since I used to hang out there in the '70's. Not for the better doesn't sound like.

24 hours of shooting, that's 1.4k rounds at one round per minute, I say build a concrete wall on one side of the range so the sounds bounces back to her side twice over, and stock up on .22s and see how many you can shoot without cleaning the gun :

Good idea about the reflection -- put vans, trucks and cars over on that side at least. Maybe some plywood too. Perhaps some sheet tin...

I was thinking that about 10-20 people would shoot 2-3 boxes apiece. All calibers. I have some .45 needs shooting :fire -- and a little bit of .308 even. "rlol" Oh, yeah, I have a BUNCH of 12 gauge :smash: that might be useful.

Could even make it 1 per 5 minutes and go a WEEK. :woohoo

I will be MORE than happy to come help out as well! I need somewhere to set up tactical shoots and if you're in West Williamson County, you're close to me!

PM me info if it's okay. Thanks!

EDIT: I just looked up where Liberty Hill is and you're about 20 minutes away!! On a side note, I'd be happy to donate some cash to help you out. Can't give much, but if it means a place I can go shoot, I'll be more than happy to help out. I'm starting to build my first AR, so I'd love a place to go shoot it too. =-]

My wife and kids will be out of town the weekend of the 12th, so this would be the perfect weekend for the "Shoot-Off" for me. ;-]

Just one note: I started this idea partly as a suggestion and partly for its humor :reddevil -- so the original poster might have no desire for all of us to come out or to cause more problems for the neighbors. "rlol"

While I think he might enjoy it, make sure you understand we haven't been invited (yet :confused5 ) -- that was me instigating. :evil2:

Here's what I want to know about the berm, flood plain or not: you have to have a Professional Engineer and a permit for a pile of dirt?
