Gun Ranges Around Gainesville, TX?

#1

Post by Buhay_XD »

I'm pretty new to the Gainesville area (near the TX/OK border) and am a bit surprised that they have no gun ranges around. I usually shoot once a week, but have to drive all the way to Dallas to do so.

There is a Grun Range in Sanger.

Magnum Sports Center
4934 Duck Creek Rd.
Sanger Tx
(940) 458-7000

and a private club complete with one year waiting list

North Texas Shooters Association
13878 Rector Road

These are not in Gainsville, but they are closer than Dallas.

Any hope of USPSA/IDPA/CAS matches at Sanger? Looks like either a long drive to Greenville or an even longer drive to Wichita Falls.

With the price of gas what it is a long(ish) drive to a "lost brass" indoor range just doesn't seem worth the trouble.

Isn't somebody out there that has access to a field with one or more dirt berms be willing to start a Gainesville area shooting club? I would be first in line to join up.

saw this thread and decided i'd go ahead and register...

there's an indoor range in sherman, just north of 82 on texoma pkwy... it's behind a bbq joint, the drive is between there and a rent to own place...

gainesville also has a free outdoor range run by the city... lately it hasn't been open (since the flood earlier this year)... to gain access you have to go to the police dept. and ask for the range key, they'll wanna check your driver's license too... i've called once a month for a while now asking if it was open (no) or when it would be (unsure)... maybe if enough people call and ask they'll open it back up...

There is a public outdoor gun range just south of Denton.
Take 35w south...exit hwy 1171...turn west. The road will dead end about 1mi at the range. I think it called Quail ridge...tho I may be wrong about that.

Just an FYI, there is a thread on this board about Quail Creek;

I've never been out to QC, but after reading the stories in that thread, I'm looking for another place to go.

This is a nice range. I use it myself. A bit pricey on their packages and on their targets. Otherwise a real nice place and friendly people (not like it was before the New Owners & Name). They are also a Wilson Combat Master Dealer.

NTSA just north of Denton holds 2 to 3 IDPA matches every month. They are a private range but allow non-members to shoot their matches.

It would be a drive for you, but there is an outdoor range in Tom Bean, TX that charges $3 an hour. You'd need to bring your own target stands and such as well.
