Re: March 2011 Applications

After 82 days, 3 emails (completely useless, don't bother) and a 4th phone call on Tuesday. My status finally went to "Manufacturing" today. After reading Bliss's earlier post, on Monday, I too dropped off an email to Governor Perry's Office via his website. I don't know if it was the persistant, but polite phone calls, that email to the Governor's office, or just a coincidence. But Bliss's carrot and stick method makes sense. Wait until 60 days after mailing before you try it.

Well said, sir. I agree with your comments on remaining respectful to the DPS reps. Getting nasty won't help a thing.

Re: March 2011 Applications

Registered mail materials: 2/19
Fingerprints accepted: 3/11
Still stuck in "waiting background check"
Total time: 80 days

No known legal or regulatory issues
3 emails (received useless auto replys)
4 phone calls (uh, same result as emails)

I called that wonderfully informative DPS customer service line again today. The polite customer service rep checked my application online, remarked at how overdue it was, and offered to, "walk down" and check with the person assigned to my application to, "find out" what the issue is, because, "everything seems to be complete and in order with your application". After being on hold, the CSR returned to inform me that the person handling my application has been on vacation, "and way, way behind in applications", and, "they'll try to get to it in the next week or so".
"Please call back in 10 days if you haven't received your license".

Ouch...again.

While DPS customer service is short on answers, I still suggest that everyone call and inquire as to your staus after 60 days. The CSR's can access your application and tell if a request has been made for additional materials from you.

Hopefully, I'll learn how I landed in bureaucratic purgatory, so that I may pass along any insight on how to avoid it.
For now, It appears to me that it is just plain luck as to whether you get your CHL in 50 days or 120 days.:banghead:

Re: March 2011 Applications

Not bent at all Mr. Johnson, and yes, I read your original addendum. I think it's important for people to know that waiting on a bureaucrat is not very productive. I'd email my priest if I thought he would intervene. I'd suggest to anyone to start calling (and emailing) at 60 days past registered delivery of materials. Thanks for your comment.

I understand the desire as I am quite anxiously awaiting mine, but I am not sure you need to waste anyone's time outside of some poor clerk at the DPS. I don't think Rick is going to intervene and have it printed up. Sorry, not trying to be a jerk, but that might be the furthest I have seen someone take it. RJ

Really? Do you think that poor clerk at the DPS is going to fix the problem? In 2008, there were people waiting 120 days until enough of them complained to get the system fixed. I'm at 76 days since DPS received my materials via registed mail. My status has been background review for two months. I'll email anyone if I think it will help hurry up an extremely slow, inefficient process.

Re: March 2011 Applications

I mailed my materials on Febuary 16th, and USPS reported that they received by DPS on 02-19-2011. My application has been waiting background check for over a month and the total number of days is at 69 as of today. I emailed at 61 days and received a form email that stated that my application is being processed and that I am responsible for for any requested forms or materials. I have not received any requests for additional materials from the DPS. I have read in other forums that DPS is notorious for not sending or losing additional info requests. I called and left a detailed message for, "Marion". The customer service representative informed me that Marion was handling my application. After not hearing back from Marion for a couple of days, I called again. The customer service rep told me that Marion was, "clearing out", my application and that I should receive my plastic in two weeks. I'll believe it when I receive it. If your CHL has not arrived in 60 days, I am informed that you are wise to follow up immediately to see what the problem is.
