It's Here !! I have PLASTIC !!

My Texas CHL arrived today at exactly 2:00 PM. The postmark shows that it was mailed from Austin on Friday, 27-May-2011 and the Texas DPS CHL web site indicated mailed on the same day. Maybe they were trying to clear out all the approved CHL's prior to Memorial Day weekend. It only took the Post Office one day to deliver the letter to me in San Antonio. An interesting item is that the return address is zip code 78773, which is the Texas DPS Licensing and Registration Service Office, but the mailed from postmark zip code was 78752. Since the postmark was a machine applied postage mark, maybe 78752 is where the CHL's are actually processed.

Time from the day Texas DPS received my documents to the day I received my CHL was only 38 days total which works out to 28 working days.

My time line was:

1/1/1996 to 4/15/2011......Procrastinated taking the CHL class
4/15/2001......................Registered for the CHL class
4/16/2011......................Attended CHL class in San Antonio
4/17/2011......................Passed shooting qualification
4/18/2011......................Submitted online CHL Application with Texas DPS. Made fingerprint appointment
4/19/2011......................Electronic fingerprints taken. Mailed documents by USPS with Delivery Confirmation
4/20/2011......................USPS confirms delivery of documents to Texas DPS
4/27/2011......................Fingerprints rejected by FBI due to unreadable. Rescheduled fingerprinting with L1.
4/28/2011......................Second set of electronic fingerprints taken by L1 and submitted to DPS.
5/13/2011......................1st update: Background Ck-Under review, CHL-Print pending completion of application review
5/25/2011......................2nd update: Background Check-Completed, CHL-Manufacturing Pending
5/26/2011 .....................3rd update: CHL-Manufacturing
5/27/2011......................4th update: CHL-Mailed
5/28/2011......................Received Texas CHL at 2:00 PM exactly!

Now is time to load up and head on down for a Wally Walk or as we're more likely to do in San Antonio: A River Walk on the River Walk!!

Keep up the Good Fight Team April, I'll be pulling for you. You'll have your plastic in no time at all!

Shhh.... ya'll don't tell anyone, but I have the sneaking suspicion that Ice Life is some sort of engineer. Either degreed or vocational, but an engineer nonetheless... ;-)

4-16 class
4-18 online app, mailed paperwork, and L1 fingerprints
5-9 manufacturing pending completion of application review
5-10 print pending completion of application review

have looked at alot of post and have not seen that one?
Maybe you should try looking suspicious in front of a mall, or maybe go roll a stop sign or something and see if that will speed things up a bit!

I'm squeaky clean too and all my buddies who were idiots when they were younger got theirs before me!

I'm not proud.. :grumble I made a huge show of pouting around for two solid weeks before I finally recieved my plastic. There was no fanfare for me afterwards, they were just glad I'd finally shut up about it!!

tvaresh wrote:Hey Everyone,

Just thought I'd add my experience with "the process". I submitted my paperwork on 4/12 by priority mail, and it was received on 4/13. Just checked and it looks like everything is complete - final line is "Concealed Handgun License : Manufacturing". I'm assuming that means it's gone to printing and should soon be shipping?
Yes, you should see a 'Mailed' in the next day or two, then you're just waiting on the United States Postal Service which means you'll have to wean yourself off of checking the DPS website! Take baby steps... you'll soon shake the habit.

Awesome! Thanks for confirming my hopes! You also realize, of course, that you're asking the impossible. I've already broken out my tent, camp stove and freeze dried goods, and I'm setup at the mailbox. I can hold out here for weeks!!! :)
OK - sorry for the delay - had an unexpected trip out of town. Got back and discovered my CHL waiting for me. Looks like the turnaround was right around a month - mailed initial application on April 12th, and it looks like the license was received was received in the mailbox around 5/12 or 5/13. Seems pretty quick compared to some other wait times I've seen - could it be that it was an application for both a personal CHL AND to attend the CHL Instructor class?

Sweet! Wally walk away my friend :thumbs2:

Re: April 2011 Applications

tvaresh, I'm thinking if your mailman is motivated, Monday is going to be your day! Tuesday at the latest! :patriot:
Go on back inside and enjoy the air conditioning. Your wait is almost over!

Re: April 2011 Applications

Thank you. I'm making light of the wait, but I'm telling you I was horribly impatient, especially with the DPS website updates. Hang in there, before you know it you'll be the one consoling the June-July groups! :tiphat:

I found this forum was a great place to read about CHL stuff, scenarios, holsters, concealment methods etc. There's plenty of stuff on here to keep your mind occupied while the days fly by.

BeetleB wrote:Hello everyone, new to the site and new to waiting.
4/27 application filed online
4/29-30 CHL class
5/2 finger prints and photos, mailed packet
Now waiting...
I'll probably go to the range and shoot a couple hundred rounds this weekend. Maybe I'll feel better.

BeetleB
See, I tried going to the range several times during my wait, I really thought it would help!

I would feel great working on my shot groups and trigger squeeze... but then I'd have 'Post-Ammo Let Down' or (PALD). I'd mope back to my truck and drive home feeling sad and lonely while my soon to be EDC sat still and empty far away from me in the range bag. :grumble

PALD has stricken many a would-be CHL holder during the waiting period. Only time (or perhaps another trip to the range) can releive the symptoms of this horrible syndrome. :cryin

April 26 Status changed - background under review

Judging by the wait times of others mine was processed relatively quickly. Wonder if dropping it off in person speeds up the processing time?
There was another guy on here that dropped his off and he got his plastic in 3 weeks! Maybe you'll get lucky. (Maybe I will drive to Austin for my renewal in 5 years...)
