This gave me pause, sure but I figure 15+1 of 9mm with a spare magazine is still better odds than nothing at all. This is a point I've made to several friends who've said "He was in body armor, what could you CCWers do?"
Body armor isn't a panacea either. Ask someone who's been shot up close whether it hurt or not. It can the wind out of you. A double tap into body armor can drive you to your knees if it hurts enough. Beyond that the two North Hollywood B of A bank robbers were riddled with bullets, despite their armor, before they ultimately died. When a bullet enters just under your armpit, where there is no armor, and transects your aortic arch, it doesn't care if you're wearing armor, and you're still going to bleed out in about 15 seconds or less.

Video of a bullet-proof vest demonstration. He is shot by a Glock 19 with a 124 grain FMJ while wearing a vest certified to NIJ Level IIIA + protection. The actual shot is fired a little after 5:00 on the video:

Warning, very small amount of blood, LOTS OF BRUISING!!

I think a 9mm is probably sufficient, most of the time. OTH, this guy would have still been in the fight with just one shot, thanks to his vest. But when you see his reaction, you'll understand why 2 or 3 quick shots into his COM would most likely disable him.....unless he was amped up on some kind of drug.....long enough for you to be able to either follow up or get away—which ever seems the best alternative at the time.

Haha. I love watching this video. This guy is a champ

I just purchased a Beretta Nano and I get to carry my Black Talon bullets I purchased in 1991. Yes I have ammo older than most gang banging thugs. LOL. While I like the Remora no clip holster I purchased, I am just not sure if I am comfortable enough to carry it all the time. I really want the extra size in ammo, 9mm vs 380, but I am considering going back to the 380 for ease of carry. I have been trying different positions and have yet to find one that I don't have to consistently fool with while sitting down or going about my business. Any suggestions would be great. How much of a difference between a 9mm and 380 with 2-3 shots to the chest? Is it enough to carry a 9mm instead of a 380?
You're going to start a caliber war... we have plenty of those going on in other threads! LoL

Seriously though, the fact that your .380 doesn't work consistently is enough to carry the 9mm instead.

As far as suggestions:

If you don't have a proper gunbelt, get one.

Remora Holsters work fine for me.. I wear one all the time, appendix.

That is assuming that shot placement worked. Realistically, if I were to shoot, it would probably be more of
a "mag-dump while retreating as quickly as I can" kinda deal.

The morning after this evil event, President Obama commented "my daughters love going to the movies. I keep thinking to myself, what if Sasha and (whatever the other one's name is) had been in that theater."
Well Mr. President, your daughters travel with a highly trained, heavily armed Secret Service detail who would have likely engaged and terminated Mr. Holmes the minute he entered the theater and threw the smoke grenade.

.

Obama... he makes everything about him. My daughters, what my son would look like.. etc.

Re: Are you still comfortable?

I feel comfortable with my EDC, consisting of the following:

G17 + extra mag= 34+1 of Speer God Dot 147 gr

OR

G30 + extra mag = 20+1 of Hornady Crit. Def 230 gr

>>>

AND, I have made it a daily habit to carry a BUG in my pocket since I acquired one a month or so ago:

LCP = 6+1 of Remington 90 gr FMJ

=================================================================================

So, I carry two guns, all the time. I think that both 9mm and 45 ACP are plenty capable of getting the
job done 99.9% of the time. In the event that a BG was armored, faceshots, hip shots, knee shots... etc.

Armor prevents bullets from going through in most cases, yes; however, I guarantee that multiple hits
to the armor, heck even a couple of hits to armor, would be sufficient to distract said BG enough to
provide a hasty retreat.
