Thanks, makes sense. I do lean towards being conservative in approach so the answers help.Keith B wrote:Because there is not a definition of secured that states 'locked in a glove box or console', then I would say it would still be considered 'within reach'. If I have a gun in the passenger compartment of my vehicle, loaded, unloaded, in the back seat, under the seat, no matter, I am going to inform the officer when I present my CHL and DL.jerry_r60 wrote:In my post i had asked about when my gun was "locked in the glove box". If it is in the trunk, then you are not "carrying" it. You are only "transporting" it, and I don't see any reason to notify. Unless there is probable cause to conduct a search, it should not come up. And if there is, you can tell them about it then.

Re: CHL, Vehicle and Adult Beverage Question
I have a question about another comment in the original post.
I know it's just simple, right up front, to give my card and say my pistol is locked in my glove box but I'm just curious what I have to do vs what's easy.
I want to validate my assumption. If I had my pistol locked in the trunk or locked in the glove box and was stopped, do I need to inform that I have a gun? I know i need to show my card but do I need to say i have a gun in the car? Assuming I don't say it up front and he then asks, I can assume the question may come in differetn forms, like, "are you carrying", "do you have a weapon in the vehicle".n5wmk wrote:If I were to be stopped for a traffic violation, .... I would notify the LEO that I have a CHL, but that I'm not carrying at the moment. But I wouldn't lie to the officer and say there's not a handgun in the truck, either.
