Valid point. I do think it introduces the possibility that he wasn't wearing a bullet proof vest, but it doesn't prove it.
Yeah, the press gets stuff about guns so wrong, it wouldn't surprise me if they confused a TACTICAL VEST with a "BULLETPROOF VEST", either.

Good thing it was the Chief of Police Oates own words at the presser then.

Re: Gunfire during Dark Night Rises

Also remember the previously voted down bill to accept the UN Arms Trade Treaty which subjects US citizens to UN gun laws is to be voted on again. Wonder what this new result will be?

Re: Gunfire during Dark Night Rises

I like it, but, NO PROFESSIONAL ANYWHERE would do this.

"What if the right to, buy, own and possess a gun was restricted to those men who are at least 25, unless they received a yearly clean bill of mental health from a licensed psychiatrist. And it would be illegal to sell a gun to a male unless they were 25 or possessed a clean bill of mental health card from a licensed psychiatrist. "

Re: Gunfire during Dark Night Rises

Yall are correct. This is scary. It will get horrible in the next few.

@rupertmurdoch
We have to do something about gun controls. Police license okay for hunting rifle or pistol for anyone without crim or pscho record. No more

Everyone wants to think they would react to the situation, however numerous studies on this type of event shows that only 10% of the population actually possess the fight instead of flight ability. Most people simply do not react, but flee from the danger. Not to say that is wrong. Faced with this scenario, that was very much the proper response. An armed citizen who does not have tactical experience would have exasperated the issue. This coward planned this out extremely well. However lack of training was his downfall as well, he did not know how to clear the jam in combat. He froze when the gun jammed, and thank God he did.
When I was in SWAT we practiced clearing jams as well as overcoming other tactical issues so much that you dreamed about it. When you look at the way this guy prepared for his mission, a well trained, well disciplined officer would have been the only way to stop this during the active shooting event.
But for those that like to practice shooting, this brings up the thought now for those of you that have not practiced double taps to chest and head, you might want to start.

I hear you, but when was the last time officers engaged a active mass shooter? Seriously, unless it was a swat officer sitting in the crowd, he would still be massively outgunned, out armed and caught just as surprised. We know all too well in these situations the beat officers are there to secure the perimeter, get the body bags and evidence bags ready and wait for the swat to suit up and get there while the shots ring out in the building, just like Columbine which was beyond excruciating, just like VT. You are dodging bullets on your own in a mass shooting. The Swat saviors arent going to be any use to you or your loved ones if you are caught in a mass shooting situation. Heck the Police station in this situation was a block away!

Re: Gunfire during Dark Night Rises

All of that is just crazy. This guy had more ballistic kit than any soldier. Only shot would have been a direct face hit. A 3" circle in a situation like that is lunacy to try. The best and only option for a single lone CHL is to draw fire/occupy the shooter making sure your family and as many others as possible have as much time as you can give them to escape. You arent making the next showing, unfortunately.

I was surprise about this particular quote. Normally all we hear is "hide, don't confront, call 911"
If a perpetrator enters through an exit, such as in the Aurora shooting, a group assault on the individual may be the only tangible way to end a massacre. A few may lose their lives, but many others will be spared. It is in these moments, in the military or civilian life, where heroes emerge.

Pure logic. How many people have died by doing nothing PSAs always advocate? What would have happened if the heroes on Flight 93 did nothing? What happened to out collective ability to think?

That was the initial report, but now they say he 'came in costume' and apparently had the guns hidden. He bought a ticket and pretended to take a cell phone call, moved toward the exit door, then turned around and threw the tear gas/smoke canister and started his spree.
That's not what witnesses have reported who were in the front row when he entered through the exit door.

Correct. He bought a ticket Sat near the Exit. His phone rang and he left through the exit like he was taking a call. Went to his car outside and got kitted up and came back in through the door. Where was the alarm?

I was completely shocked when I realized that he's actually quite a talented actor.

I'm now equally shocked that he's willing to break with the normal Hollywood ideological lockstep. Good for him.
Yea, its amazing when someone uses common logic and not some canned spam they feel like they must eat.

Re: Gunfire during Dark Night Rises

OK, we all know the huge reaction this will cause locally. It is precisely crowded, unprotected gatherings like this that need chl holders. I don't know if its been discussed but against a suited up psycho like this, there are limited options for even chl holders but that is beside the point. The detectors, ignorance and or no gun signage that will of course become more prominent will of course leave everyone else even MORE vulnerable and these events MORE likely to happen. Too bad. My concern is with gatherings, theaters, events, ect that will of course hire more screeners, uninformed, lowest common denominator security, portable metal detectors, ect and the overreaction, ignorance and stigma against chl holders this will create. I have a feeling this will lead to most good people staying home or being stripped of carry. Either way its a sad state of affairs.
