I just kind of put it on there. I haven't even had a chance to get it sighted in or anything. Wasn't really sure where to put it. But I mounted it a little more forward because I do plan on putting the folding sights on it and figured I would need a little room. Keep in mind that how much room you need between the sight and the magnifier is going to depend on whether the reticle adjustment brightness/on/off buttons are located on the side or the rear of the sight body. I deliberately bought a unit with the buttons on the side because I wanted to fit a magnifier back there on a flip to side mount and be able to adjust the brightness with the magnifier in the upright position.
