At what point do you trust a perp enough to re-holster? Perhaps when they're on the ground and unable to look back?

This is a nice story in a Charles Dickens sort of way, but I believe that a person who has made the decision to rob or attack another can never be fully trusted again despite the underlying cause. At some point they will turn on those help them and revert to their bad ways.

The 2007 Connecticut Home Invasion taught us the fallacy of complying.

What infuriates me most about that is how fully the victim went along. Once she was in the bank, she never should have returned to the car.

Reading about this event was also one of the factors that influenced my decision to become a gun owner and CHL one year ago,

This guy complied and he ended up stabbed:

Never get in a vehicle with a perp. You stand a better chance fighting back or fleeing at the point of first encounter.

A Victim Treats His Mugger Right

Or at least in the opinion of National People's Radio:

http://www.npr.org/2008/03/28/89164759/ ... gger-right

It's always best when a situation is dissipated without the use of deadly force, but perhaps the best lesson the mugger could have received would have been a slightly sterner lecture at the point of the victim's weapon. But then again, kind words are about all you have to legally defend yourself with in NYC.
