Re: January 2011 Applications
Finally got my license. Took 3 days from showing mailed to get to my house in DFW. So far this weekend I've carried into PF Changs, Cheesceake factory, Cheaper than dirt, Cabella, and Central Market. I'd say thats quite a start. It's really strange carrying a gun. I find myself tugging on my shirt to make sure it's down. I'm sure I'll get used to it.

GAM wrote:I heartily agree! I would like to know the process for the background check as it is actually conducted. I am not (just) being impatient, but due to the same traits that made me a scientist, I am generally curious about how pretty much everything works. If this is discussed in another thread, please let me know. I would guess offhand that the time difference is likely due to variable response times of the county LE rather than FBI, unless the applicant is an odd duck. For example, I am in Hays county. Are there statistics on background check times broken down by county anywhere? Anyone care to clue the clueless in on the details of that part of the process?
In all seriousness....only thing waiting on it Background check. What all is involved with background check? Run a criminal history and check local county for anything?
My guess is it's strictly FBI wait related. DPS has the ability to search anything in Texas. When they pull you over they do it. Also NCIC which is National. I"m not sure what all is involved with the FBI check but it must be more detailed than either a national or local check.

Re: January 2011 Applications
On average I wonder how long does it take for the background check to go green if everything else is done?

Wednesday will be 1 month from the date i mailed my packet
Do you have any issues that you know of? Are you Ex-Military? Any arrests? Have you moved a lot? Just curious.
i've also moved.. A LOT.. in the past 5 years (never out of state, all in Texas). i was told that moving frequently doesn't really affect the background check though, not sure if that's true
My understanding and I could be wrong on this is that if it shows up or you disclose it then they are obligated to contact the local county to verify the offense and disposition. I tried to do this before I sent my info but could only get one thing. I've been arrested twice for little things. Ticket and $25 hot check. The check was 20 years ago and the ticket was 10 years ago. I sent the info and outcome on the ticket but the little town I wrote the check in laughed at me and told me they didn't keep records that long.
That might be what is taking so long w/yours. That being said I have also read that if you are over the 60 day's they have to issue or deny you. You could call your local state representative.
These are thing's I've just heard so take them a grain of salt.

They seem to have it together these days compared to what I've read. You probably have a lot of company. I'll bet they open a lot of packets, see the barcode and forward them to the correct department every day. Might set you back a day at most for interoffice mail. Hang in there!pcgizzmo wrote:Did online app and instructor gave us pre-addressed envelope and I assumed it was the right address. It wasn't the right one for the online app and I didn't double check.
Thanks for the cheering up. I appreciate it. This reminds me of when I was a kid and my parents were going to take me to Six Flags and I got so anxious waiting only I knew the date for Six Flags. I don't know the date I'll get my license.
Just signed on to check my status! Everything is green and waiting on background check. Manufacturing is pending on background check. Yippieee!!!! App was received by DPS on the 19th.

Re: January 2011 Applications
I just wish they would tell you if they received it. Mine still says waiting on materials and they got it on the 19th according to the postal service. I'm part of another thread where we mailed to the wrong address. Did online app and instructor gave us pre-addressed envelope and I assumed it was the right address. It wasn't the right one for the online app and I didn't double check. I assumed.
I emailed them at 1:30 today also just explaining the wrong address etc.. and wanting to know if they had it in hand. I explained I just wanted to know it made it and not trying to rush the app etc.... No response yet. If they don't get back to me tomorrow about the same time I sent the email I will give them a call.
According to some on the other thread DPS should still get it but maybe a couple of days later it seems the other address is the office to send to if your paying w/a check and sending in the paper application.

Re: January 2011 Applications
I sent my application in last week and it got there on Wed the 19th. Just curious. How long did it take you guys to get an update on the site? It still say's there are waiting on my application but I know they have it. I've seen where for some it's never updated but it seems like for most lately it is updating. I'm not very patient but I don't want to start calling them either.
