Re: Scope Ideas?

Man that sounds like a good idea. any reccomendations on what to use to cut a decent enough size hole? Get this crap. I walked into WALMART today and found the same rifle for 350.00 and Cheaper than Dirt was 325.00? this rifle seems to be going down in price!

Re: Scope Ideas?

yeah I understand illumination is key. and yeah I have heard spend more on the scope than the gun but like i said anything is better than what I currently have. The way I look at it is the gun and scope combo keeps me under 700 or right around it. This will be MY first rifle/scope setup which I have seen better and worse. This will give me a chance to decide for myself what I first hand do and don't like about a setup. As of recent I have had to drastically change my work schedule to where hunting will be out of the question so I may just end up not getting it at all sad to say.

Re: Scope Ideas?

I was looking at the primary arms and I was told to stay away from the zoom being on top like that.

Anything I will get is better than what I currently have which is nothing. The milldot and all that is not as important as being able to see at low light.

Re: Scope Ideas?

I finally had a chance to go to cabellas. Tried out almost every scope they had for 400 or under. Nikon Pro Staff 3-9x50 was probably the best scope I have ever laid hands on and it was 229.00. Even the guy was saying the scope should be priced for more. Either way that is the scope I have picked out. I tried the 40mm as well. The only scope that I may get instead is the Buckmaster with mildot. thoughts? They also are now carrying the Ruger American for 372.00 which is 27 cheaper than..cheaper than dirt. Cheaper Than Dirt had the combo with bi-pod and scope for 700.00 or more but the scope wasn't very good. I pointed that out and the salesman just kind of shrugged.

Anyways I want to thank everyone for the input. Cranking out some OT to get this hopefully sooner than later. Birthday is next month so that should bump me close. It is either this or build a basic AR for around the same price but that would leave me with no optic.

I googled "bdc illuminated reticle"

Thoughts on this scope? I almost went with tru glow sights for my glock.

It's a lot in package for cheap. I am looking for a scope for dad now BTW and he didn't give me a price but I know it won't be more then my budget. For a 270. Also need good rings

Re: Scope Ideas?

I will check out thanks. I think the fact most the scopes I am relating this to are older then me. I need to somehow find out of "light gathering" will help and "eye relief" i have hunted at night once in my life so I have thrown an illuminated reticle out. On paper that Nikon looks good to me.

I went to cheaper than dirt to get a flashlight and didn't have want I could afford or wanted so I was walking out and a guy asked if I needed help. Told him what I wanted to get. They wanted 400.00 for the American.. That's high and 615.00 for the gun a scope they carry that's 86.00 and a bipod I think was 60 or less either way not 615.00 so unsure where they got that price. The scope wasn't anything spectacular

Re: Scope Ideas?

There is a nikon prostaff 3-9x40 with BDC for 169.00 I also need ring ideas. I didn't realize there importance. I will eventually make a trip to cabelas and ask a couple of guys there. Its looking like it will be late this year or early next year before I make a purchase. I am asking a lot of a scope because I know it will have to last me awhile. typically life sets in usually. Got to get a computer first now. Mine has seen the last of its days.

Thanks for all the replies.

Re: Scope Ideas?

Well let's throw out all the extras then what should I start with? Anything I know atleast a tad bit about is very unrelated. Example computers, guitars, audio, etc. well unless I am wrong I couldn't buy a scope and upgrade it later right? Sounds like BDCs make things easier ? But not a nessessity and people have hunted for years without illumination so I guess I will toss that out.

So sounds like I should get something that will allow me to use the rifle but not be a waste of money. Preferaby to hold me over for 3 years If i can? You guys mentioned recoil. Well a guy I know was telling me regardless of the scope getting a good set of rings is just as important and often over looked. I judging on what I have seen I could spend anywhere from 50 to 3k or more on a scope right? I just don't want to buy more then I need right now but don't want to scrimp and buy something worthless. If the scopes that come on the mossberg and savage or ok I will look at that and have an idea. Same guy helping me with optic ideas is offering to build me an AR, teach me about them etc which is my cheapest bet cause I can piece it one by one. I appreciate all the help and patience.

Re: Scope Ideas?

First and foremost Thank you everyone for taking the time to right some things out. I really do like the Ruger American. I have not had my hands on a Savage 111 but I did get a hold of a Axis that came with a 3x9 for 350 and the Ruger is a far better gun. I just like the action, trigger, box mag, weight. I will keep an eye out for that Savage. There was a brand new Mossberg ATR 100 I think with a pretty decent size scope for 330.00 I didn't really mess with it though so feel free to comment on that.

I really just kind of through myself out here into this post with my "ideal" scope. Aiming really high (no pun intended) I was wanting long term knowing I am going to have to do some EXTREME settling in the end. Most the scopes I can get my hands on amongst friends and family are a minimum of 10 years old. That is my basis of a scope at this point. Basically you are inhibiting a lazy moron to do little to no research. I keep guns and ammo tv on in the background while working on homework, paying bills, or helping around the house. I have noticed scopes have a lot more to offer for a lot less. I just want a good all around scope. A lot of why I DON"T hunt at certain times, besides working all the darn time, is because I don't have anything to go. SO a budget bolt gun with an all around scope is what I need. I am planning to hunt deer and hog whenever I can. Hogs can be shot all day or night last I checked. Deer obviously are not the same case. For the record If I give the impression I wanted anything but a scope, sorry I do not. Just like anything else, whatever I get I will need quite a bit of practice. I just want a decent starting place and something I wont spend more time fixing then using. Something durable and has a good life span is probably the most important.

I called around and looked around alot online and the Ruger is pretty new so no one could help me much with iron sights. Which is fine because outside of 100 yards I wouldn't hit the darn thing anyways.

Re: Scope Ideas?

Maybe this can help you guys help me. What dictates a clear fast sight picture for a scope?

A holographic won't allow me to reach out 200 yards will it? Or is like everything else anything is possible with practice? I know I am trying to get a lot or nothing. Just trying to still enjoy hunting for the next few years with a sort of a budget. Oxymoron I know.

Longshot38 wrote:That budget really hinders your options. But personally I think a Bushnell 3200 Elite 10x w/ 1/10 mil adjustments is about as good as you will do for that kind of money.
Man your telling me. I think that's why I like iron sights so much. I am used to it because I really have no scope experience, but with the gun having no sights IF I get it I will have to get a scope that day. Really any suggestions are welcome and thanks for yours. I really don't know what would be the most importan things to get out of a scope aside from eye relief. I have tried to google some factual information typically only find opinions.
