He was clearly confusing Winchester's policy with the law. It's just annoying how employees at gun shops / ranges believe that they are the ultimate source of knowledge for all things related to firearms.WildBill wrote:He must have read the box which said "For Law Enforcement Use Only."Katygunnut wrote:I did have one fun / interesting experience at Top Gun. Re: Bad Experience at Top Gun - Houston
I've been to Top Gun a few times. I usually do most of my shooting at Memorial Shooting Center instead because it is a little more convenient for me, the waits aren't nearly as bad, and the prices are a bit cheaper.
I believe that Top Gun is a really good range to take people who are not used to guns / shooting. It is bringht and open, and overall a lot less intimidating than most ranges, IMHO.
I did have one fun / interesting experience at Top Gun. I noticed that they had some boxes of my carry ammo (Winchester Ranger HP's) on the shelf, so I asked the guy helping me how much it cost. He asked if I was a LEO and when I said no, he proceeded to tell me that it was illegal to sell that ammo to anyone who wasn't law enforcement. I asked again about the cost, telling him that I was OK with not buying from them, just curious about their pricing. He flat out refused to tell me the price. The same guy then checked the ammo I was planning to shoot and saw 2 boxes of the exact same ammo sitting there in my range bag. I politely told him that he was mistaken about the law.

Re: Bad Experience at Top Gun - Houston
It depends on your definition of "won't hurt it one bit". A Glock will still function, but it may be a mess to clean. Then again, it will still function if you don't ever bother cleaning it, so all in all, the advice is probably correct.Chris Brines wrote:I will say that the gunsmith told me and I quote, "you can literally POUR oil in EVERY part of the slide of your Glock, it won't hurt it a bit.". I had a strong feeling this wasn't true so I got a 2nd opinion from the MSC guys and feel much more confident in them.
Now if he had been talking about a 1911, I would agree completely. Anything less than using surgical gloves in a completely sterilized environment is likely to "hurt" a 1911.
