Re: Texas License Plate Law?????

I pieced this together from:
http://legiscan.com/TX/text/HB625/id/700901
and
http://www.statutes.legis.state.tx.us/

Sec. 504.943. OPERATION OF VEHICLE WITHOUT LICENSE PLATE. (a) Except as provided by Subsection (b), a person commits an offense if the person operates on a public highway, during a registration period, a motor vehicle that does not display two license plates that:

(1) have been assigned by the department for the period; and
(2) comply with department rules regarding the placement of license plates.

(b) A person commits an offense if the person operates on a public highway during a registration period a road tractor, motorcycle, trailer, or semitrailer that does not display a license plate that:
(1) has been assigned by the department for the period; and
(2) complies with department rules regarding the placement of license plates.
(c) This section does not apply to a dealer operating a vehicle as provided by law.
(d) A court may dismiss a charge brought under Subsection (a)(1) if the defendant:
(1) remedies the defect before the defendant's first court appearance; and
(2) pays an administrative fee not to exceed $10.
(e) An offense under this section is a misdemeanor
punishable by a fine not to exceed $200.
I may have to put the front plate back on my car.

Re: Texas License Plate Law?????

I know this is a dusty tread but...
Does anyone know if the legislature corrected this law?
If they did, does it go into affect September 1 or January 1 2014?

Re: Texas License Plate Law?????

"Voting with my feet"
I have a 2005 Sebring with an above average number of door dings and other minor flaws.
When my 7 year replacement plates came in, I removed the front plate. Frame and all.

The front plate is still on my wife's vehicle.

The legislature can't correct the law until 2013 or until the governor calls a special session. When the law is changed, I will decide whether to put the plate back on, or not.

Your mileage may vary!

Texas License Plate Law?????

One of the things I've learned over the last few years is that sometimes our pro-second amendment friends aid the Texas legislature in writing bills that interest us.

I suspect that someone that drives a vette and doesn't like front license plates aided them with a change to the license plate law. I don't drive a vette but I don't like the way the front license plate hangs on my current car or my last one.

If I am reading this article correctly, you can remove both plates soon, because the law has a small mistake. There is no requirement for a back license plate either.

I am sure this is a mistake. I just can't tell if its a reporter of the Texas State Government.
Either way, it's funny, I don't care who you are.

Your Mileage may very.
