My first time out tonight while carrying consisted of going to Chili's to meet with the florist for our wedding.

Really didn't feel weird though. I think I had worn the gun around the house and worn the holster out in public without my CW that it just kind of feels normal now. I'll have to do a proper "Wally Walk" when I have more time.

Got my plastic from the mailbox just now!!!

Here's my complete timeline:

8/7/2010: CHL Class
8/10/2010: Mailed to DPS
8/19/2010: Online information Available
8/26/2010: Fingerprints Approved
8/31/2010: Background Check Complete
9/2/2010: Mailed
9/7/2010: Plastic in hand

28 day mailbox to mailbox is not bad... Good luck to the rest of you that are waiting!

Follow up on this... my drivers license came in the mail today. Good thing. I was a bit worried about carrying with the CHL while I had the temporary license. Probably wouldn't cause any problems, but I'd still rather have matching plastic than the temporary that I printed online.. The new drivers licenses are interesting too.. like they're printed on a solid piece instead of laminated.

Oh, and on a bit of a side note, I applied for a change of address on my driver's license just a few days before the DPS received my CHL paperwork. I still have not received the new DL... wonder if my CHL will beat it? That would be truly remarkable/sad..

I was surprised to see the "Mailed" status so soon after the background check cleared. Maybe I got lucky and they were sending a group over to the printers right before mine was complete. I really wish the DPS would clear up how these are handled.. though it's their perogative to not I suppose.

Well I was thoroughly surprised to log onto the DPS CHL system and see that my status had switched to "Mailed"!!

I guess I'll be a sub 30 day turn around too..

One question though, the "Application: Received" block is still yellow with the caution sign beside it. I'm surprised this didn't ever change colors to green through the process. Is this normal?

I'd say the "final stretch" is after your background check clears. Hopefully yours will go the way of mine and a few others recently and be finished in a matter of 2 or 3 weeks instead of months as others have experienced..

I think all of us with these faster than normal turn arounds have been surprised. I was fully expecting 60+ days because of all the horror stories I had read on here. The DPS seems to have a lot of time on their hands these days.

The DPS seems to really have their stuff together lately. I can't imagine waiting 90+ days like a lot of people did just last year..

Did my usual morning check of the DPS site, and I come to find that my background check is complete! Manufacturing Pending!

So here's my timeline:

8/10/2010: Mailed to DPS
8/19/2010: Online information Available
8/26/2010: Fingerprints Approved
8/31/2010: Background Check Complete

I think me and a couple other August applications have fallen onto the same desk, because my timeline is very similar to several people who have been posting their progress lately.

Any idea on typical time from "Manufacturing Pending" to mailed?

Whaaaat?! You will probably have a sub 30 day turn around. That's crazy.. but huge congrats! You give me hope that mine may not be far behind, as everything else for our has lined up so far... knock on wood.

A week from online information available to fingerprints approved... let's hope the background check only takes another week! (knock on wood)

Congrats on the progress. I've seen some folks that say the background check may follow by only a few days.

I'm going to do my best to wait until mid-next week to check my status again.
