Re: August 2010 Applications

I'm in the same boat. Crossbreed holster is 2-3 weeks out since I delayed my decision on what my primary carry pistol would be. Practicing with my LCP in front pocket with $10 cover.....I just couldn't bring myself to believe the DPS would turn my plastic in 4 weeks. I guess it's better than having the gear and waiting on the plastic. ;-)
MrBalll wrote:Well, passed the background check today and am now at Manufacturing Pending. Hopefully I'll have it before the end of next week. Shame my holster won't be here for another two or so weeks. Oh well, guess the cargo pocket will have to do for now.

Also, congrats NavAir. :thumbs2:

Oddly, that was the longest part of my process. Second only to the mailing. I think they sit in a pile waiting to get assigned/entered, then sit in the mail room for a couple of days. Still, it's much better than it has been. The post election flood has subsided it seems. I've noticed prices of ammo and weapons dropping rapidly lately, and even sales/rebates going on. Heck, I can even buy primers and powder now!

S&W 642 and crossbreed on order......finally made a decision on what I wanted. Lol, that took longer than the CHL process!

Best of luck and a speedy delivery to those still waiting!

Re: August 2010 Applications

Well, after five days "in the mail", it finally arrived.

I think it sat in the mail room there for a couple of days since it's only a two day mail trip to DFW from Austin. I was getting a bit worried, but it's in the wallet now so all is good. Time to get a holster I really like and then off for a wally walk.

I'm figuring when they say it's mailed, they mean it went to the mail room.........how long before it goes to the post office is another matter. No way it takes more than two days from Austin to the DFW area in my case. :cryin

Re: August 2010 Applications

Wow, sorry to hear that. Hope they are right and they do it with the SSN and it only causes a small delay.

I was worried since I have a scar on a finger that messed up the ink prints. I figured they would reject them, but luckily, they didn't.

ChattyKat wrote:Congrats to all you people having short processing times!

DPS received my packet on August 26, 2010. On Aug. 25 I went to FAST for my fingerprints as suggested by my CHL instructor, but FAST said my fingerprints will DEFINITELY be rejected because the fingerprint ridge definition was not good enough. FAST said after they're rejected I will have to get my fingerprints done again (at no extra charge), and they will probably be rejected again. FAST said then my background check will be done based on my social security number. Has anyone else had fingerprints rejected?

Status went to mailed today! I hope all others in the August waiting room have a similar turn-around. I'm pleased, and a bit surprised.

Haven't decided on a carry weapon yet. I have a Sig 226R and Glock 19, both of which are on the large size for me to carry, and an old Sterling 400 .380 which fits great, but is not the most reliable feeder. I may have to break the news to my wife that a new handgun is in my future.

Any reason/excuse for a new addition to the safe is a good one. :thumbs2: I'm using the arrival of mine for a J frame airweight snubbie. $50 rebate from S&W until the end of the year, to boot.

:cheers2:

Mine also just completed the background check - Manufacturing Pending

I guess I need to get serious about finding a holster I like now!

Re: August 2010 Applications

I'm also considering what to carry. I love my 1911's, but full size would be more of a challenge to conceal - even in the winter. I figure it would be my glock 23 as primary, then a smith J frame for those light clothing summer days. maybe a LCP as a BUG. It seems that the waiting here may not be the hardest aspect of the CHL journey after all. It is, however, the most aggrivating!

OK, that's enough. Don't want to jinx it.

Now I'm jealous! My surname is very rare, not even a ticket since '84, and my background check and fingerprints are still under review.....

lol, I can't complain since I've been putting this CHL thing off for over two years. I figure I can wait and suffer for my procrastination.

Best of luck there, maybe you should buy a lotto ticket now?!

Re: August 2010 Applications

Howdy all. Been lurking a while waiting for the August room to open, so time to join in.

It took them a week after receiving my packet to update the status. However, they showed that my online application was received "pending submittal of documents" within two days after completing it in July. Seems like there is no rhyme or reason as to the time or sequence with the site updates.
