Plenty of other states seem to keep the populace under control without a front plate.
Look at all the expense it would save, to say nothing of all the fuel lost due to losses of aerodynamic efficiency.

What's good for the goose....
A few years back a retired DPS officer wrote a book about beating traffic tickets. In the foreword he wrote that during his career, when he stopped a driver for speeding WAY in excess of the limit, chances were very good it was an off-duty LEO.Charles L. Cotton wrote:
So yes, laws are to be obeyed . . . by everyone. It would gall me no end to hear one of my fellow officers chastise a driver for some traffic violation knowing full well he/she did far worse at the end of every shift.

Re: glad i didnt have that drink...
I'd rather that than drill crooked holes in the new bumper on my brand new $30K car. My wife drove a Chrysler 300 2 years with a cockeyed front license. I think that was part of the reason she traded it early.jester wrote:Certainly not the dealerships who sell cars without a front license plate mount.gigag04 wrote:...who cares what the law says anyways...Rex B wrote:Sure glad I don't live in your jurisdiction. I do have a front plate on my truck, so we're at 2 for 4 in my driveway

I think I was in a Mustang.gemini wrote:IF it was a newer Harley touring bike, and no modifications to original wiring had been made,Rex B wrote:Correctgemini wrote:One main (larger) center light with two smaller lights, one on each side of the main beam?
3 in a row?
then you were looking at the low beam and 2 passing lights, NOT the high beam. I'm not
saying it wasn't bright or maybe in your eyes. Either could have several causes: you riding in a
low, smaller or compact car, the bike having a heavy load thus lowering the rear end and raising the front,
etc etc. I always run with all three lit (low beam & 2 passing lights) for safety reasons, day and night.
I want to make sure I do everything within reason to make myself visible to other traffic.
Sorry you had lights in your eyes, but I'd be willing to bet the offending rider had no intention of
deliberately trying to cause you any problems. The bright setting on my Harley is similar to a Q-beam.....
you would definitely know ............
I have no idea on the bike, could have been Mr & Mrs Big Foot on it. All I saw was bright lights and blue dots.

Re: glad i didnt have that drink...
Stock lights are no problem. the most recent one I recall had 3 lights in a row, custom arrangement. I'm sure he could see well on that dark, narrow 2-lane, but I almost had to pull over and stop.gemini wrote:Rex B wrote:Motorcycles are even worse.chartreuse wrote: Question for you (OT that it is) - is there anything in the TX code about dimming your brights when passing oncoming traffic at night? The headlights on newer motorcycles come on automatically day or night. Safety reason. Automobile drivers pay little if any attention to bike riders. Most riders I know are very careful not to use a bright beam with oncoming traffic..... why make it harder for a car to see by blinding them? If you travel country roads, a bike rider will use the high beam for the same reason a car would, scanning for road hazards.
If you're thinking the passing lights (smaller lights on either side of main beam) on a Harley are high beams, they are not. They simply expand the beam to the sides for better visibility. The passing lights automatically turn off when the high beam is turned on.
Ride safe.

There was probably a mount when they shipped the car to Shelby American, but the Shelby front bumper cannot use the Ford license mount.92f-fan wrote:It came with a mountRex B wrote: Mustang came with no mount.
There are some aftermarket mounts that work.

Re: glad i didnt have that drink...
I think most of the time it's just low-beams with bulb upgrades or poorly aimed. I've flashed lights at oncoming brights, only to have them flash theirs back to show me they were on low-beams. I rarely do that anymore. Motorcycles are even worse.chartreuse wrote: Question for you (OT that it is) - is there anything in the TX code about dimming your brights when passing oncoming traffic at night? I think the problem is we no longer require headlight aiming for state inspection, and the DOT regs for brightness are essentially unenforceable at the local level. How any patrol cars have light meters?

Re: glad i didnt have that drink...
I haven't had a front plate on my Z3 since I bought it 3 years ago, nor my Mustang a year ago.
Mustang came with no mount.
Wife hasn't had one on her last two cars, one warning in 5 years for it.
(looking for a "knocking on wood" emoticon )

Also no front LP. Fail to signal w/in 100 ft of turning, and fail to stop a designated point.
