Re: April 2010 applications

Finally...

Mission complete. License in hand.

Most folks are usually pretty happy when they finally get their license, however, I view the licensing requirement, and process as a whole, to be an affront to every law abiding American citizen.

Yesterday, had I carried a concealed firearm to defend myself or my family, I would have been considered a criminal. Today, all of the sudden, I will only be considered a criminal in "special" locations if I carry a concealed firearm, OR, if I should happen to not have my "license" on me.

Silly...

Meanwhile, the criminal element is out there using firearms to prey on those who abide by the law and lack the tools they need to defend themselves...

Re: April 2010 applications

JUst wondering where you took your class.
Bell county.

In accordance with statute, they probably had to get a report from a county I lived in out of state within the last 5 years, and who knows how long that took.

In this day of automation, not everybody is at the same level, so while some areas have much of their info online, others still use old school paper filing techniques.

Now it's going to be a matter of comedy finding out exactly how long it will take these jokers to actually create and mail the license.

I'm thinking 3 weeks minimum.

Apparently April is NOT the time to apply or renew...

Re: April 2010 applications

Texas Dan, can you post your stats (with dates?)
28/29 Apr 10 - App received by DPS IAW certified mail

14 May - App appears online. All show good to go. Prints and background check show "under review"

4 Jun - Online check shows Fingerprints rejected

7 Jun - Electronic prints taken by L1 solutions
-Gal at L1 says they Email them the same day. DPS rep I talked to that day said it takes 24-48 hours for their system to update.

9 Jun - Online check shows prints have changed from "rejected" back to "under review"

11 Jun - Receive letter from DPS dated 8 Jun stating my prints were rejected, recommends L1 services for electronic prints. LOL!

22 Jun - Email sent to DPS asking why no progress has been made in either my print review or background check.

23 Jun - DPS responds in email saying, "The fingerprints have been received. We are waiting on the results of the backgrounds based on the fingerprints."

As of 30 Jun - Prints and background still listed as "under review"

Re: April 2010 applications

Texas Dan Mosby,
Can you post your stats?

Have you contacted DPS via phone or email?
If so, what have they said?
Who have you talked to/emailed with?
Here's the stats IAW TX online...

* Application : Received
* Fingerprints : Under review
* Affidavits : Received
* DL or ID : Valid
* Citizenship : No documentation required
* Passport photo holder : Received
* Photo : Received
* Proof of Classroom training : Received
* Proof of Proficiency training : Received
* Proof of Special Condition : Received
* Fee : Received
* Background Check : Under review
* Concealed Handgun License : Print pending completion of application review

I sent an email last week to the address referenced at the online site, which was promptly responded to the next day with...

"Your prints and background are still under review...."

Very insightful information indeed.

Being a service member, I think the hold up is the fact that I have had 5 different addresses in the past 5 years due to deployments to sunny Iraq, and a permanent change of station. Combine 2 different TX counties, one in FL, one in WA, and a "we'll get to it whenever" attitude, and I could be looking at a new record for longest application completion time imo...

No tickets, no arrests, and I've held either a S or TS security clearance for the past 20 years.

Go figure...
