It's equally illegal to drive while under the influence of an illegal drug, a legal prescription drug, a non-prescription drug, or alcohol. The DWI statute says "or any other substance".cyphur wrote:However, we should limit you to your home while under the influence. Or at the very least, there must be a restriction against driving or operating machinery/weapons under the influence.

Can't disagree with that - what a person does in their own home......Liberty wrote:My suggestion.
Allow anyone one to grow their own for their own consumption. Sale, resale and transporting could still be illegal. The government doesn't need to be in anyones home or private property as long as there is no real threat to others.

Legalizing MJ also assumes the public is responsible enough to use it correctly. We already know they can't use alcohol responsibly enough, why give them another challange to their questionable judgement and reasoning?
There is no "right" answer to this question. As a society we are very hedonistic and caught up in materialistic persuits. Having drugs be illegal creates a black market, legalizing them but regulating/taxing the crap out of them creates a different black market, but making them entirely legal to any and all ages presents a moral issue concerning children.
I think we started on a slippery slope a long time ago restricting alcohol, and its created an environment where anything we do creates more problems. Only true eradication of the element will solve the issues, and marijuana will be around for medical uses for years to come.
How about we legalize alcohol for all ages, as well as marijuana, and raise the driver's license costs and its training/testing requirements, and bump the age to 21. I'm all for less regulation by the government, but not at the risk to the safety of my family.
