While obviously XM855 5.56 is steel core, I have found that some of the el cheapo Russian 5.56 is magnetic not because it has a steel core, but because they mix iron in with the lead to save money. Also, M80 7.62x51 has a bi-metal jacket and it will attract a magnet, but again it is not steel core. So, while I think that no steel core (5.56?) is an understandable rule, ammo that attracts a magnet is not necessarily the definitive test. No green tip penetrator is what they really mean, isn't it? Any clarification appreciated! :???:
I'll touch base with them tomorrow and get clarification.

Re: Meet up?

I forgot to mention that I have plenty of B27-E targets, so unless you have special targets you want to use (or buy at the range), you don't need to bring any. I bought a 100 a while ago, and I've probably used 10.

Re: Meet up?

New information. I spoke to Austin at the Armadillo Range. They have 50 yard and 100 yard rifle bays. They don't allow rifle ammo that is steel core, so if your ammo is magnetic, you can't use it. Normally you have to pay the membership fee of $25 plus the $15 range fee. However, Austin told me that he would waive the range fee if you buy a membership, and if you don't, he'll change $20 for the range fee. He also said they get VERY busy on Saturday afternoons, so maybe we should plan on going shooting first and then meet at Big Daddy's afterwards. So, go shooting at 10AM and meet at Big Daddy's at 1PM?

I also spoke to Kelly at Big Daddy's. They have no problem with OC. He did ask me to let him know how many were coming, so I need to get a count. (Austin asked about that too.) So I'm adding a poll so I can get a count. Look for it under Meetup Attendance Poll. viewtopic.php?f=83&t=81808

Re: Meet up?

Yes, still at Armadillos. They have both rifle and pistol ranges, so you can bring both.

Re: Meet up?

Saturday January 23rd, 12 noon, Big Daddys. Bring your hoglaigs if you want to shoot, and don't forget your ammo. They get a pretty penny for it in the shop. Range fee is $15.00, and Big Daddy's will probably cost you another $15 or so.

I'm not worried. I already know Andy, baldeagle, and Beiruty. I''ll vouch for them... Not sure if they'll vouch for me though. :???:
OK, that's enough out of you. I vouch for you here and now. :tiphat:

Re: Meet up?

Well, there's no reason we can't push it back a week. How would that impact folks? The 30th is supposed to be just slightly cooler and cloudy.

Re: Meet up?

OK. This coming Saturday (1/16) is supposed to be 48 degrees and rainy. The following Saturday is supposed to be 61 degrees and cloudy. So I suggest we do this on Saturday, Jan 23. Meet at noon at Big Daddy's Roadhouse BBQ for lunch. They have picnic tables large enough for a good size group under cover outside the building. First person there grabs a table. Second and following go in and get your food. When you come back out to the table, the first person can go in and get their food.

After we eat, those that want to shoot can mount up and drive up 78 to Nevada (That's Nev A Da, not Nev AH Da) to the range.

Here's the map to Big Daddy's: https://www.google.com/maps/place/1000+ ... e9725fe506
Here's the map to Armadillo Shooting Range: https://www.google.com/maps/place/6710+ ... f47768ad18

When we leave Big Daddy's I'll take the lead since I know where it is. When I get to the turn I'll pull off on the shoulder on the right. When you see my black Grand Caravan, turn left and follow the road into the range. It will be on your left.

Re: Meet up?

Thanks txdang. Sounds like a great idea. We could meet for lunch at Big Daddy's about noon and then mosey on over to Armadiollo guns. Looks like they've made a lot of progress since the last time I was there. No shotgun though, so Andy, you're gonna have to shoot pistol.

Re: Meet up?

If you haven't already voted, please do. It's looking like Saturday is the best day. Since 2 want to eat only and 3 want to eat and shoot, my suggestion would be that we meet for lunch and then go shoot. Since this is an East Dallas meetup, I think Elm Fork is too far. Maybe Garland Shooting Range? Anybody have other suggestions?

As far as eating goes, I'm always up for BBQ. There's a place on Hwy 78 past Wylie named Big Daddy's Roadhouse BBQ that has really good eating. You can get to it from George Bush and then up 78 from either direction. There are some back road ways to get there, if you know the way. http://bigdaddysroadhousebbq.com/ 1000 Highway 78 Lavon, TX 75166

From Rockwall and points east, you could take 205 straight to the place. It's at the intersection of 205 and 78.

Re: Meet up?

OK, we need to setup two polls. One for the date and one for do we want to shoot, eat or do both?

I'll get it started.

Alright - this is the date poll - http://texaschlforum.com/viewtopic.php? ... 5#p1043015

I'm game if east Dallas/Tyler types want to meet to eat or shoot. Or both.
