Re: The Forum will be down for a software upgrade/migration
I'm not sure why that would be necessary, mojo84. I maintain a board with 750,000 posts (over 1.1 million since inception but 300,000 have been pruned), and it's plenty responsive. I just rebuilt all 750,000 posts today in about an hour and a half after upgrading the server OS. Proper coding and database design will make a database of 1,000,000 posts quite responsive. You'd have to get into the tens of millions before responsiveness would become an issue. It just depends on the software.

It's under Quick Links now. In the upper left hand corner.

Re: The Forum will be down for a software upgrade/migration
Thank you, Charles. That's much better.Charles L. It only fills about half of the screen, it is centered in the middle.
The User Control Panel is under your name in the upper right of the screen. From there, select "Board preferences," then select "Edit display options." Scroll to the bottom of the page and set "Use maximum width" to "yes."
I don't know if this will address the desktop v. mobile version or not.
Chas.
BTW, I went over to the developers board and poked around. It seems that some of the developers think onmouseover dropdown menus are a thing of the past and should no longer be used. There's a big fight going on as to who is right. So maybe the next update will include an option to make the menu onmouseover enabled if you want it that way.
Thanks again for all the hard work. I'm well aware of how you've spend your weekend working on this instead of enjoying life.

Re: The Forum will be down for a software upgrade/migration
As long as you're still doing work, if there's an extension that makes the Quick Links dropdown on mouseover, that would be greatly appreciated. I suspect that was done for mobile devices, since they can't mouseover things, but media queries can make the site work differently for different screen sizes.Charles L. The extension to do this can be found at https://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/extension/elonw/
Thanks,
Chas.

Re: The Forum will be down for a software upgrade/migration
Charles, as one who has BTDT and continues to do it, thanks for all your hard work. I know how frustrating it is when you really, really want to get the board back online but it's not ready yet.Charles L. Cotton wrote:This took much longer than I could have imagined and there were several restarts of the upgrade/migration. I'm going to work on the bugs now.
Thanks for the report folks.

Re: The Forum will be down for a software upgrade/migration
Ditto for the comments made by WildBill and E.Marquez. I can't check my phone right now, because Apple just released another IOS update.
Just checked on my cell phone. The same problems exist there that exist on the desktop version. The layout is clearly optimized for mobile devices.
Great job, Charles. Now you get to stamp out all the remaining bugs.
Interesting note: When I edited this post to add the cell phone info, as I clicked on Submit, I was taken to the error message that you get when you click on Active Topics: "The specified search backend doesn’t exist."
I went to control panel to adjust the display options. They are now so thoroughly screwed up it's hard to find newer threads and no matter what I do it doesn't change the order. For example, this thread now displays "backwards". IOW, the newest post is first, and the original post is last. No matter how I change the viewing order it stays the same. I have no idea where the thread is on the board, because when I go there I see posts from 2009, 2011 and 2012. {{{sigh}}}
I went to Andy's most recent post (UK's 'biggest weapons haul') and got this: The requested topic does not exist. Yikes!
