Re: Texas to Sturgis

I rode to Sturgis 3 years ago and CC'd the entire trip. Be careful. Don't drink and carry. You shouldn't have any issues with your CC as long as you behave and obey the law. Pay careful attention to states motorcycle laws. I see you're planning to skip Nebreaska, they have a helmet law. There maybe other special laws. I once heard the South Dakota doesn't allow Sunglasses after dusk, I don't know if that remains in force. I've never seen the law written, I was told a story by another biker that took a trip to Sturgis years before and was stopped for wearing his shades late.

I took US 83/183/283 up through central Nebraska, then hwy 2 west. My return trip was through WY, CO , and NM.

The Black Hills is some of the most beautiful riding I have ever done. Be careful. The views are spectacular but the roads are have many curves, and many bikers especially during bike week. Speed kills. Be careful.

I took a early morning ride through Custer National Park. I was the only one in the road, temperature in the low 40's. way cool, pun intended. I started seeing signs of a buffalo herd having crossed the road, and was dodging their patties. Then I came up to the herd, some still in the road. I slowed. The herd grew around me and suddenly I was trapped by dozens of buffalo, all I could do was wait for them to move along. They didn't. Approx 15 minutes later I was approached by and oncoming forest ranger who was kind enough to push the herd clear of the road with his truck. That was an awesome ride.

The ride over to Devils Tower is also amazing. The road itself is less so than the views of the tower.

You have a great trip ahead of you. enjoy.
