I walked it along I-30 East of Dallas, I-40 East of Little Rock and up I-81 I collected repeaters and programmed my radio for a trip that I took recently. It worked well and I was able to hit most of the repeaters that I selected along the way. I can tell you that there is a lot of dead air on the 2M band in those areas.

For programming, you might consider CHIRP. The idea behind it is to standardize programming across multiple makers. I haven't switched to it myself yet but am considering it. I'm working with a group that has all different kinds of HTs and we want to develop a channel list that is consistent across them for the 146/440 repeaters in our area.
