Who ya gonna call?

Charles's post in response to the legal insurance thread prompts me to ask a couple of questions.

Two statements in Charles' post caught my attention:

"if it's a righteous shooting, and if you don't let your mouth turn a good shooting bad" That means that I have to follow the protocol of not talking until I have an attorney present or at least have spoken to him/her about what I can and cannot say. While Charles' reference is to a shooting, I would expand it to include an arrest for unlawful display.
Question: how does one go about finding an attorney on short notice?

and

"but I want to be able to control who represents me in court." To me, this means that I also have to find someone who isn't going to further their legal education on guns and shooting situations while billing me. I'm assuming that not all trial lawyers (as opposed to corporate ones) can specialize in all areas.
Question: what is available to help me make this decision? Would attempting to find the right person in advance be perceived as planning for future mayhem?

and something that wasn't part of Charles' post

We travel occasionally and I figure that there is every bit as good of a chance that I'll need legal representation in SC or PA as there is in TX. The selection complexity would seem worse in those locations.
Question: how does one go about handling legal representation in a strange city?

Sorry, I'm just naturally trying to think of future obstacles to hurdle.

TIA

Chas.
