Hug your little ones...

There's a 3-year old boy spending his Christmas Eve in the hospital tonight. He's been in and out of hospitals for almost a year undergoing various treatments for cancer.

Over the long months he's learned the ropes of being in the hospital very well. Of dealing with the doctors and nurses, of having tubes constantly dangling from his little body, of losing his hair, of watching his hospital friends come and go.

Some are gone forever. He doesn't understand why. Only that they're gone.

He's a tough little guy. His little body has been subjected to all manner of invasions and indignities. Radiation, chemotherapy, and most recently immunotherapy, just to name a few. The latter is especially hard. He says the "spiders are biting me". But it's a constant thing for 20 straight hours at a time over a four day period each session. The pain hardly lets him sleep, even though he gets a steady drip of morphine throughout the procedure. But he hangs tough.

Despite starting with a 15% chance of survival when he was diagnosed in February he is now cancer-free. He is a living miracle and proof in the power of prayer. He still has a long road ahead but the fight from this point forward will be focused on keeping the cancer from coming back. He will win.

How do I know all this?

He's my grandson and I am so proud of him.

Merry Christmas, little Lucas.
