hmm.. running tests on that now. Might try uninstalling and reinstalling it fresh. See if that clears it up for now.
Ok, tested on 3 phones, upgrading and hadn't gotten this to occur. If you don't mind let me know if a fresh install fixes this issue for you, otherwise I'll upload a new package.
yes uninstall an fresh install worked, as a side note i have had this happen on other apps as well. I use a MyTouch 4G fwiw.
Gotcha, I will keep an eye for it then. I am aware of one issue that causes it 100% of the time, but checked and I was not in violation of that. Hopefully it's not a trend with your phone model as I know how annoying that can be.

There are 8 of us at work with CHL's now, I sent them all an email about this app and they're pretty excited about it. Our in-house developer contacted our instructor so he can annouce the app to future classes! He's all about contributing to a database.

About half my group has Droid's and the other half has iPhone's. The iPhoner's are drooling with envy.... :drool:
0.0 Glad to hear it! When I first started this concept I simply wanted the manual on my phone in an easy to browse method and an app never popped up so I sai what they heck! ;)

It's good to see there are like-minded people out there who will get some enjoyment from it. Thanks for the feedback!

When I opened the 30.06 & 51% feature the only city listed was Houston.
Is that a bug in my download or do you only have houston linked up for now?

Indeed would be a great feature. I will be looking into integrating Google Maps API here and there while I roll out updates to the database. For now, hopefully we can get the database populated so I have something to work with. I will be working on a way to do just that pretty soon.

pbwalker wrote:Pipe dream, but I wonder if there's would be a way to use the built in GPS to send a vibration or alarm to the phone if you are in a known no-carry location? e.g., establishment that maybe posts on certain doors, or is off limits altogether?
That would be an a great feature. Very similar to an idea I worked up on an Android game I also have at a conceptual stage. I will file this in the ~3.0 category. The next updates will concentrate on the new database feature: searching entries, leaving comments on entries and on other comments, and whatever else comes through feedback.

Re: Texas CHL App for Android Iphone

After a long few weeks of hard work I am glad to say that update 2.0 is now live on the Android Market. Here is the update description from the market:

"This update allows you to enter the locations of 30.06 and 51% businesses and locations directly into a database as well as view entries, sorted by city, that all other users have submitted!"

There's more, but that is the basics; you can now view and add entries to the a database at the future website http://www.texaschlapp.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Here's the market link in case any have not yet downloaded / installed: https://market.android.com/details?id=c ... rch_result" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Thanks for all your feedback, I have more plans in the works that I will roll out as 2.* updates; including comment system, searching, and I would like to look into a map system that will show the locations in the future. Thanks again and have a good weekend!

mikeloc wrote:One of the FAQ reads, " Can others find out if I am licensed to carry a concealed handgun?" The answer reads, "Yes. information may be pro....."

The law was changed in May 2007. Section 411.193 records are not subject to open records laws.

You may want to just include the FAQ that are in the 2009-2010 CHL-16 manual.

Mike
Ah, yes. Mike, thanks. I did not scrub the FAQ after the last update. I'll update that this weekend.

I figured this would be a bit rocky getting started, good thing I have you guys n' gals to help, while I get these processes put into place.

I have found the Texas Penal Code - Section 1.07. Definitions, and I see some overlap which is currently in the CHL app under Texas Penal Code PC §9.01. DEFINITIONS. Were you suggesting just adding the Term Reasonable Belief or adding the entire PC 1.07?
Well, I guess if it were possible from a storage standpoint, the entire 1.07.... but if that is a problem, then just 1.07 (42). In his seminars on use of deadly force in Texas, Charles Cotton hammers the "reasonable" and "reasonably" part a lot, because it is an important parameter to self-defense.
It is definitely possible to add the whole thing, I was asking merely as to whether or not it was all relevant or just the portioned you had mentioned. Seeming as it is I will take a look at adding it to my next content update.

Re: Texas CHL App for Android Iphone

Thanks a ton for your feedback! I will have another series of updates to adjust the look and feel. I went so fast on development that I didn't stop to pretty it up any. The wife got a hold of it and said it needed a little something so I've dabbled with imagery and layout and will be putting up another update soon.

Phase 2 is still in the motion; I plan on merging a database in so we can add / view those 30.06/51% listings. This part will take some effort, so bare with me a little while longer. If you've seen pages 3/4 you'll see some members adding their 2 cents on this part (Thanks Hoi Polloi and others!) and I welcome any and all feedback, especially when I hit you with the visual / graphics update (next day or 2).

Cheers! :cheers2:

Oh, iPhone.. I will look into this and see if this is something I can jump on quickly before getting in too deep into Phase 2.

G.A. Heath wrote:bzo311: Have you contacted Russell with Texas3006.com? It seems to me that you could both benefit from the others efforts. As someone with a little bit of coding experience I hate to see duplication of efforts.
No, I have not yet made any attempts to contact Texas3006.com. I may do so when the majority of the scripting for this feature is done so I will have a better understanding of what the limitations and possibilities are. I will be attempting to store the info and allow comments by multiple people on each entry, most of which has been discussed here, so it will take some effort.

Also, it looks like in copying the text from the PDF, you got the page titles too (TEXAS CONCEALED HANDGUN LAWS XX.XX). It might be easier or cleaner to copy the sections from http://www.statutes.legis.state.tx.us/.
I think so. last night I updated the parts in question but I will be re-compiling the entire doc from the new manual posted here yesterday. I will verify that it contains an update for what you've posted here. Look for this next content update over the next few days.

Ah, yes. The page numbers sometimes appear differently in the manual, they are not consistent, making it tougher to grab every one. I can create process to strip out the text in the manual, but when it throws curve balls at me I have to keep my eyes open to catch them. ;)
The newer chl manual seems to have a lot less info and/or the 2 chapters, LAWS RELATING TO THE CARRYING OF A CONCEALED HANDGUN IN TEXAS and DPS RULES RELATING TO THE CARRYING OF A CONCEALED HANDGUN IN TEXAS, were merged in some way since the 2nd one is missing.

The info was easier to merge so I should have another update to the app live this afternoon with the entire 2009-2010 manual info. Thanks again for your efforts in checking this data. I'll have to add a special thanks section in there somewhere for all of the forum help I'm getting from you guys n' gals!
